Mystery: What is a "Tara" dancing? Anyone know?
My instructor mentioned last night a dance style (sort of a Pharonic??) called Tara. She had seen a performance long ago and was in awe of how the group danced. Specifically they would sort of swirl about with veils and travel in a circle and sort of "spit" out a dancer from the circle who would do a bit of a solo, then be absorbed back into the circle and this was repeated until each dancer danced a bit of a solo piece.
I have searched You tube and only found a goddess sort of clip, but no group dance.
Maybe I am spelling/pronouncing it wrong. Our class is doing a Pharonic piece for an upcoming event and I thought that sort of move would be cool to do with the 7 of us. Do you all know of this?
Thanks
BTW feel free to post any of your favorite Pharonic clips too

I've never heard of that, but the group concept sounds neat. I may have to incorporate that circle and spit idea into the next large group choreography I do.

Is this what you are talking about?

It's not bellydance, but they do mention dancers working in circles with solos, like you describe.
"Dancing the Goddess, circles of dancers throughout the world gather to celebrate,...one by one the dancers are born out of the intricate mandala formation to dance one of the Praises of Tara as an offering to the world."Last edited by sabrinabellydancer; 03-03-2011 at 02:24 PM.

Dutch/German dancer Shahrazad does "Tara" dances and shows - not Middle Eastern dance though:

(you can see a link for Tara on the left and look at some pictures)
Maybe that's what she meant?

I believe there is a bit about this in the book "Sacred Women, Sacred Dance" if I remember correctly... It seems to be a kind of ritual.
