Thread: Hind Rostom passes away

The multitalented Hind Rostom (هند رستم) died yesterday at the age of 81 from a heart attack. At the height of her career, she was branded the "Marilyn Monroe" (or "Rita Hayworth," if you prefer) of Egyptian cinema. She retired from performing in 1979, after making over eighty movies. In addition to her other roles, she is known in the dance community for her portrayal of Shafiqa Al-Qebtiya (widely to be considered the mother of the shamadan dance), in the 1962 biopic of the same name. Sorry to hear of the passing of another legend. She was truly a major force in Egyptian cinema. I keep hoping that the movie Shafiqa el Koptiyya will eventually be released with English subtitles. I'd love to see the whole thing.
