Any recommendations for some good current Arabic pop music?!

One of my favorite arabic pop songs is Ama Naeema, by Marwa. It's a remake of the popular 1960's Leyla Nazmi song and Marwa made it quite popular in the arab world again. I saw a dancer on one of the Little Egypt videos (the cairo nights videos) dancing to this song and thought it was just so cute. Here's Marwa on YouTube singing it:

Oh yeah I remember that song! I couldn't listen to it at work! I remember someone dacing to it a few years back but I am not sure if it was this re-make!

I downloaded it from this site. Problem is the song names are in arabic. But if you roll the mouse over them their phonetic english spelling comes up.

Ok here is a random quetions but I can't figure out what the numbers mean? What charachter or sound do they represent?! i.e. "Na3eema"

Well, does it have to be Egyptian pop music or any Arabic pop music? I have a new album called Dalaa' Nawaem that I really like. It's a compilation of songs by Lebanese female pop stars. I've decided Nelly Makdessy is one of my new favorites. And I still like a lot of Haifa's stuff, even if she does kind of strike me as the Lebanese version of Britney Spears.

It's a big pain to try to transliterate Arabic into English, because there are some unique letters that we don't recognize. The 3 is often used to represent the Arabic letter "Ain" because it kind of looks like an Ain. And that's better than the transliteration system I know, which would make "Na3eema" into N"IM?.

Ain is pronounced very nasaly (and sort of throaty at the same time) and there isn't really an equivalent sound in english. The 3 in a word represents that sound. It sort of rhymes with the word "mine"...but more in the throat than on the tongue. If that makes any sense.Other sounds that can't be expressed by the letters in our alphabet are represented by other numbers.

By itself, Ain does rhyme with nine, and it's pronounced deep in the throat -- a guttural sound. But in this word -- Na3eema -- it would make the vowel following it guttural rather than being pronounced separately. And that sounds confusing even to me! I better have some coffee!!

It IS a tricky sound, as all throaty sounds tend to be (for me at least) Probably the best way for someone to hear how it's pronounced in this case is by listening to the song, Marwa repeats the word a gabillion times.
