I've seen almost no discussion on bhuz about the 2012 International Bellydance Conference of Canada (IBCC).

Yasmina Ramzy just posted this on her facebook page:

I got really busy the last 3-4 months and let the ball drop a bit for IBCC, so we have added a one month extension for deadline for Call to Artists for Main Stage and for Speakers, so you have until November 17 to submit your request to be presented on Main Stage or as a speaker. As well, the Earlybird discounted price deadline for conference has been extended to October 31. Great teachers like Mahmoud Reda, Tito Seif, Natalia Fadda, Sahra Saeeda, David of Scandanavia and many more to be confirmed. The most important is Khairiyya Mazen, the last practicing Ghawazi from Upper Egypt - this will be her first time crossing the Atlantic - be part of this historic conference.

How is it that we're not seeing a lot of excited posts by people over an event that includes Khairiyya Maazin's first teaching engagement in North America, Mahmoud Reda, Tito, and others? Are people just not aware of the event?

Then again, maybe I should keep quiet to ensure there's more room for ME in the workshops!

Well, I for one can't WAIT! I've been planning this trip for years since I had to miss the last one! I have brought it up in various threads in passing (like the Reda workshop attendance thread) and WAY back when I registered there was a little flurry of "who's going" but even tho I'm excited, it's kind of hard to keep bringing it up when no one else is talking about it either.

I was super busy in August & September too & thought I'd missed all the deadlines. Now I'm wondering if I should apply for Main Stage after all. Hmmm.

Yeah, I was kind of thinking that for a split second too

I am paid up, flights paid (well, apart from internal because I am actually going to NYC first and exiting via SF, so I still need to determine how I want to travel up and down again and across) and bouncing around like a maniac already! WHEEE!

But the past two years have taught me nothing if not inshallah. Let's hope for no ash clouds this time! Or any other natural occurrences that screw things up!

I think we're all being superstitious and are too afraid of mother nature wreaking havoc again!!!

Khairiya was so excited for the past one, and so crushed when her trip had to be canceled. I'm not sure she's ever left Egypt, so this will be a big trip for her.

She's such a lovely person and her and her family have been so mistreated over the years because of dancing, I think she'll be quite overwhelmed by the attention paid to her! She doesn't have a lot of English, but she understands, "I love you" and really? What else do you need?!

Also, Reda hinted heavily on this last tour that he'll no longer be doing North American tours, I think the travel is just too much for him, so this may be your last chance to see him in North America!!!

*sigh* no excited posts from me due to finance issues, and guessing for others too? I am looking at $700 for domestic flight alone from the west coast, plus hotels and the conference fee. I had the good fortune to attend and perform at the last two, meaning I got the conference for free and alleviating some of the cost, but Yasmina has taken that option off the table this year. I am not complaining as I am sure others pay more to travel than I, and I know studying with many of these people is priceless, but it just isn't going to happen in this economy for me I look forward to hearing about it!

They have at different times used Ads on various bellydance websites and magazines. I think a lot of registrants come because of word of mouth referrals, so there isn't as much need for aggressive advertising... because the conference is just that awesome :)

I'm submitting for main stage this year - wish me luck! and can't wait to see everyone there!

I am excited and I am going. I just haven't had time to be openly excited yet but I have been running myself ragged.

I do agree that for such an amazing line up, there has been little press. The website seems to be several years old with very little info on 2012.

I would love to have gone but I'm already committed, along with my troupemates, to trying to save up to go see Randa Kamal in Chicago in May. I can't afford to do both in one month.

I think you will find the website gets updated soon - Yasmina and Mel, according to their FB updates, have been busy with some other Arabesque projects and now have the board swept clear to focus on the IBCC promos.

But don't forget, this was promoted to people who'd already been from, wow, 2010. You could register at a super earlybird price during the last one IIRC. It's been on the slow boil for a long time.

Hmmm... sounds like this may be the road trip I was looking for.

Me again, heh. I am staying with friends and am planning on staying an extra couple days to be a tourist since I don't know when I will ever be back in Toronto- any must see things that may not be in the tourist guides? I've already been promised a trip to Snakes & Lattes.
