Show me your Enta Omri
I've been listening to different versions and watching different interpretations of Enta Omri, trying to get a feel for the song. I found this version that I really like

What can you tell me about dancing to this classic song? Do you have a version or a favorite video by someone that you'd like to share?

Re: Show me your Enta Omri
The only clip I have of myself dancing to Enta Omri is from last year's Art of the Belly festival. This is a rather unique version, the clarinet makes it sound so Turkish...

Re: Show me your Enta Omri
My favorite version is from Mahmoud Fadl's Umm Kalthum 7000 album. I don't think it's in print anymore - the vocals kill me. I have a video of me dancing to it, just not online!

Re: Show me your Enta Omri
ohhh thats my favorite version too! I don't have video of myself performing to it, and I don't know if it looks like much when I dance to it, but the music sure feeeeeels amazing in my body. That version is 16 minutes long, I've broken out a couple of 6 minute chunks that I use for performances sometimes.

Re: Show me your Enta Omri
I bow down to Kiyanna's impressive google-foo! Yes, that is it. And, like Lauren, I don't know how I look dancing to it, but I feel like a million bucks!
I usually cut it at 4:58, right before the music shifts - it makes a great under 5 minute performance. (Listen to me giving out all my secrets on bhuz!)

Re: Show me your Enta Omri
A bunch of us posted Enta Omri videos in this old thread:

The video links don't work exactly right, but they can be copied and pasted...

Re: Show me your Enta Omri
Recently I heard one version done to all heavy metal. I was rather disgusted by it.

Re: Show me your Enta Omri
Is music not allowed to cross genres? Or is it just not supposed to go heavy metal? Are all those club remixes ok, or are they disgusting as well?
I see it as the sign of the greatness of the music, if it can be rearranged and made known to a wider audience.

Re: Show me your Enta Omri
THANK YOU.
As both a belly dancer and metal fan, I wasn't sure how to react to that comment. Without having heard the "heavy metal" version of Enta Omri, I can't say what could have prompted someone to call it "disgusting." Maybe it was badly done and I wouldn't have liked it either, but it seems a little odd to call something disgusting out of the principle that certain music should be kept "pure."
You know, there are plenty of Arabs who like metal, too. One of the demographics that most adds me on facebook aside from belly dancers are metalheads in Arab countries. I know a lot of Arabs who like and who play metal and if they want to mix it with music from their own culture that's a great thing. I've never heard a metal version of Enta Omri, but I'd love to. So far the closest I've gotten to it was a rock version, by a Palestinian band named Khalas.
