    Amira Mor's style?

I did something I never do. I bought a belly dance DVD at Ross Dress for Less for $6. I figured I'd see what some students and general public might be buying. It was Amira Mor's Belly Dancing Total Workout. What style does she do? Is this representitive of her usual dance style? It really seemed kind of odd... .w.: Am I missing something? Her website has a nice list of credentials. Maybe I don't know what I'm looking at. Please educate me.

    Hi, Arwen:

We had a discussion about Amira a while back--here's the thread:

    http://ads.bhuz.com/forum/topic.asp?...chTerms=,Amira

I don't know what "style" you would classify her as, apart from "Amira Mor style".

I love her energy and enthusiasm even while not always appreciating the movements she teaches.

As you can read in the previous thread, I was one of Amira's students for a while. And yes, as Taj says, her style is "Amira Mor style." She will be the first to admit that!

I would classify her as Turkish Fantasy myself. It is heavily influenced with Turkish moves but also has a fantasy feel to it. I kinda like it even though I'm an Egyptian style girl.

I see a lot of jazz dance influence in her style.

I actually emailed her years back to tell her I loved her performance video and to ask her what style she was. She promptly replied thanking me and stated she was fusion. I believe she stated fusion of many bellydance styles as well as Jazz and Latin dance.

Sorry, I missed this old thread. I went through and read it. Replies were interesting. She is definately an entertainer whatever one may think of her personal style!

Sorry, but I gotta be truthful here & the result is not pretty. That's NOT "Turkish", it's not "fusion" - it's bumpa-bumpa, grinda-humpa "harem hottie" burlesque - with all the class of her taking off those hankie skirts in public, with nothing but a thong underneath...

She should join Kaya & Sadie ...

Got lots of "tales" - won't tell them here...

Oh, but I'd love to hear them!!

Honestly, though, people who don't know much about bellydance LOVE Amira (my parents still talk about how great she was, and they saw her dance at Lafayette grill in a costume that revealed part of her butt cheeks), but the bellydance community (ie: people who know their sh!t) as a whole is not so fond of her.,f::

People who think it's all T&A or that's what they want to see & don't see the total non-relationship to the music, yeah ...

How often do I ever make a (public) negative comment about a specific dancer?

Non-relationship with the music, that is a great way to describe her. Anyone who wants to know what non-relationship with the music means should try and learn a choreography from Amira. It is virtually impossible - she is one of those people that cannot stick to counts, or follow the music. She just goes. Not that she dances visually off the music, its just that the music might as well not be there.

Perfectly put! & that's just the beginning ... tho for such a sensitive rhythm / music creature as I, it's physically painful!!!
