I love Brazilian Belly Dancers!

A friend of mine in Brazil, just shared this rare clip with me. Shahrazad Sahid Sharkey, credited with being a pioneer. "She is the first Brazilian Bellydancer and teacher, she is Palestinian of Armenian and Turkish origins, she moved to Lebanon when young, them she got married and came to Brazil. Her stage name is Shahrazad."

If I understand correctly, Sharazad taight Lulu? Lulu was, of couse, my "gateway" to Brazilian dancers, meaning I discovered her videos and then dancers on her videos, then the many youtube vids from Khan el Khallili. Watching Brazilian dancers, I feel like they are always improvising, with good feeling and musicality.

Pretty sure she's Brazilian, though some of her stylization makes me think she could also be Argentinian. Reminds me a bit of Shahdana.

Not only do I like the Brazilians energy when they dance but I like their costumes too!

Wow, thanks for posting this! I'd never seen this dancer before. I actually had to look her up because from the video I thought she wasn't Brazilian. There are a few things I really liked about her:

1. She has a sort of similar body type to mine which is always nice for me to see on stage. She is so cute and looks so young, but has a lot of confidence on stage.

2. I'm not a huge fan of Tony Mouzayek as a singer, and I find that as a performer he likes to overpower the dancer on the stage. But this tiny girl totally has the spotlight here.

3. Her style is really unique. It's nothing like the São Paulo Khan el Khalili style of most Brazilian dancers I know... which by the way is a great style, but when you see it over and over again it's refreshing to see something different coming out of the same area. I also didn't think the stylization looks very Argentinian. Argentinian dancers have a very very specific style that I find even easier to regonize than Khan el Khalili style. I can see some minor Argentinian influences but she definitely has her own thing going on.

4. Love the costume and veil wings!

Sorry for the double post, but I just watched some other videos from Alika Hanan, and now I'm definitely seeing more of that Argentinian influence you were talking about. She is Brazilian, but I know some dancers in Brazil travel to Argentina to study there, so this could be the case here. There are lots of videos of her performing in Argentina.

Also apparently she is only 15 or 16 years old.

i love love loveee Ju Marconato! And now I'm really glad you shared the clip of Ana Borges. I've never seen her before, but she's a beautiful dancer!! I think they get so much energy from Samba dancing! If you've ever tried it, it takes a lot of stamina to move that quickly and for such a long period of time.

I don't know how many watched the Brazilian telenovela O Clon in the early '00s. Shahrazad was featured in one of the major wedding scenes near the end of the series. She is presented as an esteemed dancer amidst all the young and beautiful dancers that accompany her and is the highlight of the wedding celebration.

Here is Habibah El Kol,from Brazil and just relocated from Minnesota to California. She won Virginia's Rakstar International competition in 2011.

That´s so interesting to read!That may explain why I felt that the "typical"brazilian style is closer to the lebanese rather than the egyptian?:-)

Since my sister in law is from from Vitoria,I´ve seen some dancers from the Brazilian scene(plus the resturant owners in Stockholm hires brazilian bellydancers to come here and work+I´ve trained for Lulu)

Sadly I couldn´t find any clips with her,but I saw a FAB brazilian dancer in Dubai at the Rotana Morouj.She had "motor hips",danced barefooted and did a mean dabke:-)

Hi girls,
Going back to Alika Hanan (Victoria), she is Brazilian indeed, and very young! We call that veil from the video "silk wings" and they are made by "Hana Sedas" - HANA SEDAS (I actually have a red one from her that I love!!!). They are also made by "Silk by Therê".

Regarding her costume (also from the video), it is from Tony&Robby...After I started buying from him, I could not stop

And sharing my favourite dancers, I love Esmeralda Collabone, she has Lulu Sabongi (now is Lulu from Brazil) style but in heels.
