Thread: Ahhh....The classics!!

I just felt like sharing a classic. As I stated with the other "traditionalist" dancers in another forum post, I'm a dinosaur too! (If you didn't read the forum "I live in a cave...Bordelo bellydance is real", you may not understand my previous comment ..l;, ).

So here it is... This is a 1956 classic film clip featuring Sabah and Nadia Gamal. The song is called "Zennuba." I just love the singing and the dancing is so energetic and graceful!

Just gone up on Youtube. I love this era too..the matching body stockings and lovely leg show although I think the bra leaves something to be desired, that's a neat skirt and belt but oh dear no the silver slippers were around even then!!!...60s early 70s Yes? And who is this..anyone know?

Lizajuk, is that not Nagwa? Looks like her face to me, but youtube is playing all jerky for me today, so I can't get a feel for her style.

ETA: never mind. Just got a better look at her face, guess it's not Nagwa.

I've been searching for classic VHS movies and performances like these too. Does anyone know of a good place to purchase tapes like these?

I love Nadia Gamal and Sabah....I have that clip upstairs on video somewhere and those classics are my idea of music and dance *heaven*!

And when I got out of bed this morning, I had that Nagwa-look-a-like hairstyle too :-/

If you're looking for movies with English subtitles, my favorite sources are Arabic DVD , FineArt Film!, Arabic DVD , and enter.html . There are a couple such as Afrita Hanem and Mother of the Bride on Amazon, but the other web sites are better sources.

All three of these clips are just wonderful. But the Naima Akef one is just exquisite. Her dancing really seems timeless and not dated to me. Wow, just wow. I hadn't seen that one before, thanks for posting it, THTX! I think you and I have similar tastes. I liked the Sigmund costume, too, even though I don't remember Sigmund, missed out on that somehow...g.:

I've watched the Naima A'f video 100's of times over the years and it still gives me goosebumps!
I once asked a music engineer to clean & beef up the music from the video so that I could use it for a Naima tribute dance, it still cracked and sounded thin but I don't mind.
