    The "Traditionalists" Resource Thread

Sausan Academy™ of Egyptian Dance - DVD Store

I found this great site while searching for photos to add to a PPT about the history of Belly Dance. Rather than just stick it onto an existig thread, I thought I might start a new one for those who enjoy this sort of thing. Maybe one could be started for Folkloric resources as well.

Morocco's videos of Egyptian dancers in the late 70s/early 80s performing in nightclubs, and her folkloric footage:

Welcome to Morocco's Meanderings click on Videos

I love the movie performances, but to me these nightclub performances really show what the dancer is all about.

And Aunt Rocky is an occasional bhuzzer too ..g.:

Hi, Anala: Much thanks for this thread. Not many dancers are as interested.

I have formulated a lecture and video series on the dancers and their dances during in the Golden Era of Egyptian Film. It will span over several weeks and be in several parts, and it will include watching and talking about the dancing of each dancer.

With each dancer, we will discuss technique, performance, era costuming, essence of their dance, their biographies, and more, as well as introduce the singers who sometimes appear in the scene with them.

Dancing in the Golden Era of Egyptian Film

Part 1. - Sunday, March 30, 2008: The dances of Taheyia Karioka, Samia Gamal, and Na'eema Akef

Part 2. - Sunday, April 6, 2008: The dances of Katie, Na'met Mokhtar, and Zinaat Aloui

Part 3. - Sunday, April 13, 2008: The dances of Samiha Tawfique, Nebawiyia Moustafa, Hoda Shams El Din

Part 4. - Sunday, April 20, 2008: The dances of Hend Rostom, So'ad Hosny, Schweekar

Part 5. - Sunday, April 27, 2008: The dances of Nadia El Guindy, Nabila Ebeid, Lebleba

Part 6. - Sunday, May 4, 2008: The dances of Nagwa Fouad, Zizi Moustafa, Aza Shireef, Suhair Zaki

    ------------------------------------

I would consider taking this lecture on the road. My studies of these women and their individual dance technique has been extensive.

That is sooo wonderful! I would be there, but NM is a ways away. I hope you get lots of attendance for this and the road show becomes a great success. I can tell you that Amaya here in NM may be very interested in this for her upcoming Shake and Bake. You should contact her. She is very mindful of the history of this dance, She has a DVD project in the works about great American Dancers, just so you know her mind set is compatible. Hope to see more of you!!!
