    Quick egyptian pop question

What's the name of that song where the guys sort of calls out "walla walla walla walla walla walla walla walla walla walla walla walla AHLAN!"? Google turns up a lot of references to Amr Diab, but it sure doesn't sound like him -- it has a very earthy, folky sound.

Hakim has a song El Wala Wala off of his Yaho album. Not sure if that's the same one you're referring to.

Yup, my guess is your talking about Hakim's song, titled (of all things) Wala Wala. :-)

Or possibly Saad El Soghayar "El Kalam Ala Meen"

    Never mind.
    Sorry, can't help.

I listened to my American Bellydancer CD and it's definitly Hakim's El Wala Wala. As somebody said, you can find this song on the album Yaho.

    But does Hakim's say "ahlan?"

I remember it as "walla walla walla walla walla walla HO. Walla walla walla walla walla walla hey."

(heee, this is a silly conversation!)

The song is on the Yaho CD but it is titled "Habibi Ya" see the link below from Amazon and listen to see if this is the song you and everyone are refering to. Just scroll down and click on #7. I hope this helps Asimatiyat.

MIchelle75 is right. On Yaho, the title is Habibi Ya AND El Wala Wala (1st and last song) and on American Bellydancer it's called El Wala Wala.
Personaly, I hear El Wala wala wala wala wala wala wala hey!
El wala wala wala wala wala wala wala ha!
As Lauren wonders, I don't hear ahlan at all. But I may be wrong... I hear hey rather than ho. ..l;,
I found that El Wala Wala means Hey dude Habibi Ya means Hey love
The two song are the same on Yaho but not arranged the same way.

Actually... I just listened to all three songs, the two Hakim songs and the Saad song (I sure do love my mp3 player!), and I think might well be El Kalam Ala Meen, since Asimatiyat describes the song as earthy and folky. I don't hear the Ahlan, though. If there's a couple of "kidaho... aho!" in the song, that's it.

I also hear El Wala wala wala wala wala wala wala hey! and then ah! in both Hakim songs. I never realized how very similar those two songs are...

I listened to El Kalam Ala Meen and yes, the "wala" that we hear in the beginning of the song can be what you are looking for. As Badriya said, if you look for a earthy and folk song, that's the one.
Jillina, on tour, taught a workshop in 2004 to the song of Hakim and Bellydance Superstars use El Kalam Ala Meen if I remember well.
But I think Badriya is right with the song that you want.

Hmmmm. well, maybe he's speaking just to me there. .w.:

LOL - I was going from memory, not listening, so your guess is way better than mine!

Off the top of my head, I am familiar with the one that Hakim sings. I danced to it several years ago. There may be others as some other bhuzzers pointed out, but Hakim's song is the one that stands out. And its called Habibi Ya.
