Belly Dance in Denver?
I'll be in Denver for a business conference the first two weeks of June. Any instructors I should check out? What restaurants feature dancers? Any events going on in early June?
Thank you!

Let's see - House of Kabob on Colorado Blvd, Mataam Fez on E. Colfax (but it's pretty pricey), and Casablanca Moroccan Restaurant on S. University Ave. I love Bombay Clay Oven too, but I've never seen belly dancers there.
The big event in June is Shimmy for the Cure featuring Jim Boz on June 2-3. Here's the info:

I say try to get instruction from Maria (above).
She can
shimmy like you would not believe. I met her in Boulder at Mataam Fez
in Boulder a few years back and was blown away by her beauty
and skills.

Phone number to House of Marrakesh. You don't need reservations, but recommended. 1530 Blake St. just south
of the 16th St. Mall in downtown Denver.

I HIGHLY recommend them, (and not because I work there)
I dance there every Saturday....(except if I have private gig) and on call for Sundays and Wednesdays. If you go on Sunday, you have to request me or they won't call unless it's really crowded on Sunday.
I will be there Saturday June 2nd.
House of Marrakesh has an al a carte menu, you can spend as little or as much as you like. The seating is on chairs or on the floor, your choice. The food is AMAZING, and the people are awesome! It's a real family affair type of restaurant.
Joanne, a bhuzzer has been there twice, and she can vouch for me!
I only dance for owners and people who are genuine, real, respectful and nice.
It is right in downtown near everything. Just south of the famous 16th street mall.

Hi,
Of course I recommend two of my own teachers: Suzanna del Vecchio on Capitol Hill, and Eva Cernik may be back in town by then as well (downtown, Monday nights at the Mercury Cafe.)

Yup, I can vouch for Maria & the food at House of Marrakesh! Go see Maria, if you can! She's a sweetheart and you'll really enjoy her dancing. The restaurant is beautiful and the staff will make you feel right at home. :) My husband thought it was the best moroccan restaurant we've been too.

Thank you guys so much for this information!
Maria, I would definitely love to see you at House of Marrakesh! (I am traveling with colleagues, so I can't write my plans in stone, but I'm hoping to drag at least one of them over on Saturday, June 2nd!) I bought your purple great loop a while ago, and it would be wonderful to meet "the dancer behind the loop" as it were and see you dance.
I'll definitely look into Shimmy for the Cure and taking a class with Suzanna while I'm there too.
Thank you again, I'm really excited for my trip now - it's making traveling for work much more thrilling!

05-10-2007 12:57 PM #15Yes, I remember selling you the purple great loop!
Hope to see you at HoM!
I still have my gold, silver and copper great loop. THose I'll never sell, they are classics. I've had my gold one already re-beaded once on the belt!
