Thread: Visiting Las Vegas this summer?

For any of you who plan on coming to Vegas this summer we have a huge convention going on July 30-August 4th. Our line up of teachers is incredible and we will have a Monday night launch party plus 2 Arabic concerts with Amani and Dina. Also, competitions and an open stage to perform on! www.theibdc.com

I am thinking about going! Looks like a fun event. Plus, I have family there, and this is a good excuse to visit (aka hit them up for a place to crash in between workshops). :)

I have a scheduling question: Any idea when the troupe competition will be (which night)? It is not clear on the website.

De-lurking quickly to say that I am planning on being there. I'll likely come Tuesday late afternoon and stay through Sunday morning. No competitions for me, but I just might brave the open stage!

the troupe competitions are on Thursday evening. I think everyone should dance on the open stage, it's a perfect place to cut your teeth if you are a new dancer, and good advertising for professionals.

And don't forget about the shopping! yay!!!!

I've signed up for two workshops, got my open space time, have my reservsations... all I have to do is pack. Cannot wait to see Amani.

So I really want to sign up for some of these workshops, but when I go to checkout, the website appears to be unsecure (not https: or little lock in the bottom right corner). Has anyone else noticed this? I do not want to put my credit card number on a site that isn't protected, you know?

sahar: I noticed it too; I went to call the number on the website and it's disconnected? Don't know if the number has changed, but it makes me nervous. I want to go but will wait until I see either paypal or a secure symbol on this page. Paypal would be preferred imo. I know others who have voiced the same concern so hopefully they'll put some security on their site!

I emailed them through the site, so hopefully I will hear something soon. my only fear is that the one workshop I really want to take (Dina) is going to be sold out by the time I get this all straightened out! I just had my credit card number stolen last week (not sure how) so I am not willing to take any chances :(

More like stage fright, but I'm working on it! I'll be doubling up on private lessons with Roxxanne before then so hopefully I won't trip on my gallabiya or have super-dead arms - but only from elbow to wrist (what is up with that) and the like.

But I hope you get a time from Thurs - Saturday when I'm there! I want to see & support as many bhuzzers as possible of course!!!

Tina, sorry - I'm not planning on coming in until Weds. night. - how long will you be there total?

my plan was to scout it out early part of the week & maaybe go back up on the weekend but the schedule isn't corporating with me. everything i want to do is spread out. i teach weds. & thurs. & JUST got the REC to let me off. i've been scheduled for tuesday for a few months. i was never planning on over nighting. tina

I'm so glad you are dancing!! It will be great to see you again, I'll be the crazy lady running around like her hair is on fire!! (I thrive off that kind of stuff). But I want to get a chance to see as many Bhuz members as possible.

Glad you are dancing Tina, wish the schedule was working better for you, it's hard when you have to teach nightly classes to find subs.

How's attendance looking so far? Are vendors jumping in full swing?

attendance is looking real good, I know people were reserve at first, but the registrations are rolling in, the competitions are filling up, I'm pleased.

We have our regular vendors like Audrena and Dalal, no event is complete without them!!! But we also have some east coast like Rachid Records from NY, and new vendors coming from Egypt.

I'm also trying to impress on the dance community that this is a "convention" so whatever you do in the dance, this is where you need to come and network and advertise, whether it's annual events like Bahaia's HOT dance camps, or Amaya's Shake and Bake, there are always new dancers who don't know that these events exist, and sometimes just an hour drive away from where they live.
Same with dance studio's and dance troupes if you have the greatest dance studio/troupe in Oklahoma, come tell us about it. Every other major industry has conventions, and everyone goes over the top to out do each others booths in decorations, and markets themselves and make new connections.

I model shoes at the shoe show twice a year (which by the way, the shoe show will be going on during our convention for all of you shoe addicts out there!! ) and the event is so artistic, from the Italian Mom and Pop shoemakers, to Steve Madden.

I'd consider doing a BellyDanceLA little booth but quite honestly, I think it's too expensive to advertise a local thing - although if bhuz is gonna be there maybe I can join in with Rosey. hmmmm.

SSSSHHHOOOOEEESSSS....... Yum, whose house can I crash at! I think the shoe convention people must have planned this very carefully. Lots of crazy women into sparkles and shoes in the same place at the same time!

I hope they bring enough pairs!!! LOL!!!

I haven't booked my flight yet, but I'll try to get one that gets me in early enough to see you! As soon as my houseguests leave in a couple of days, I'm going to book everything.

I am all signed up!!!! I'm doing 4 workshops: Amani & Aida Nour on Wednsaday, Zahra Zuhair on Thursday, and Dina *sqeeeeeeeeeeeeeee* on Friday. The workshop budget is blown out for the rest of 2007, but I don't even care!

Tina, it looks like I will be getting into Vegas before noon Tuesday, so I should be able to see you dance and meet up with you. And Dani, I've got the open stage slot at 5:08pm on Thusday - just a 'lil bit before you.

I can't wait to see everyone!

Whooops!! now we have 2 threads!!! this one and the one in bhuz meetups . . . trying to get me confused?? LOL!!!
