Flamenco for Bellydancers Workshop in Chicago

    Hey everyone -

I'm posting this info for a friend and wonderful flamenco teacher, Rosetta!! Info on the workshop is below and also on her website - the link is included below also.

    Hope to see you there!

    Flamenco for Bellydancers Workshop

Interested in incorporating elements of flamenco into your dance and keep it authentic at the same time? Why not learn flamenco techniques from a professional flamenco dancer?

On Sunday, June 3, Rosetta Magdalen of Flamenco Chicago is offering the first-ever flamenco workshop for bellydancers. It's a two-hour workshop from 3-5pm held at 4163 W. Barry Ave. in Chicago. Tuition is $40.

Maximum class size is nine -- so there will be a lot of individual attention and opportunity to feel flamenco technique from the inside out and practice the skills. The purpose of this workshop is to give bellydancers accurate information about employing elements of flamenco in your dances in a convincing and authentic way.

We will cover basic flamenco body posture and technique, basic use of the arms in ways specific to flamenco, typical flamenco turns and how to perform them, and some simple heelwork that can be used within the middle eastern dance vocabulary.

We will look at and analyze some flamenco video clips to give you an idea of what to watch for and how to emulate our way of dancing. We also may spend a few minutes looking at typical flamenco accompaniments (shawls, fans, castanets) how they differ from the props you are using and how they may be able to be adapted for your dance. And, you'll receive some music to take home with you.

Studio location (in the basement of my home) is: 4163 W. Barry Ave. in Chicago. Please do a www.mapquest.com driving direction search to give you an idea of how long it will take you to get here from your location before you commit to attending the classes. There is on-street parking available (no permits, no meters).

Tuition is non-refundable (unless a session is cancelled due to lack of enrollment) and is payable by Paypal, cash, money order, or check (but please be sure that your check is good!). To prepay your tuition using Paypal, simply go to your Paypal account (www.paypal.com) and use my recipient e-mail -- rosetta@flamencochicago.com -- to send the $40 tuition. You can also visit the Paypal website to set up a Paypal account if you don't have one -- it will take just two or three minutes.

You can also drop off or mail your check or money order in the amount of $40 payable to Rosetta Magdalen at 4163 W. Barry Ave., Chicago, IL 60641. But, please, no bouncing checks!

If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to e-mail me!

I saw Rosetta's student show last night. She is a great choreographer. I'm definitely going to try to make this workshop.

Anyone else in Chicago going to check this out? I'm hoping that it runs and she needs at least 5 people.

The workshop was wonderful!! Rosetta is an amazing dancer and instructor and really showed some basics for how to incorporate the Flamenco styling into Middle Eastern dance.

She said that she would like to do it again, so watch for another date hopefully sometime in the fall!!

Is she planning on doing it again? I'd have loved to have come, but I was teaching a workshop of my own that afternoon.

Rosetta is planning to do it again. But, it sounds like it won't be until late summer or Fall of this year. I'm sure you'll find a post here on Bhuz about it. I definitely recommend it!
