I just booked a trip to DC and during the week, I have a whole lot of nothing going on. Id like to take some belly dance classes out there. Can anyone recommend a teacher and studio that allows drop ins? I'll be there August 13th through the 17th. Thanks!

Hiya, Nilaja!!! Don't forget to contact our own lovely Aaminah/Janet!!! She takes w/Yasmeen (Yasmin? Yasmina?) who is the Egyptian counterpart to Bd-School-Co-Instructor-Partner, Artemis Mourat (Turkish).

Yeah, I have,, my sister lives there. So I thought I would spend some lazy day time with her. Then we'll head up to NYC for the weekend.

I'd highly suggest Artie for privates while you're here. She's awesome!
The studio where Yasmin teaches "public" classes does not allow drop ins.
Faten Salam takes drop ins- she's fabulous!
There are a TON of places all with various degrees of background, experience and education. Have fun! :)

Ooh! Any chance I'll get to meet you in person, finally?

You'll be here just in time for the last week of the session at Saffron Dance in Clarendon -- come dance with us! Saphira is a terrific teacher for both private lessons and group classes at all levels, and I'm sure she'll let you drop in to any of her technique or combinations classes. (The combo classes are meant to accommodate people's crazy summer schedules and start fresh with material each week -- especially good for drop-ins.) That's the week after our summer show so things will be winding down a bit, but there's always something going on. Schedule here: Saffron Dance | Belly Dance Classes in Arlington

Faten also teaches at Saffron, and she's fabulous. Her classes are Friday nights and run on a slightly different schedule because of her travel commitments, but I think she's "on" that week. I can double-check for you. She teaches a lot of choreography, so you might be jumping into the middle of a piece we've been working on for a while, but it will still be fun and worthwhile. There's some follow-the-butt improv in every class too -- might be beledi, might be drum solo, might be a complete surprise.

There are lots of other good teachers in the area, too. If you're looking for something specific, ask away! Let's be in touch.

::Squeals with joy!:: Oh Zana! If I can jump into the Thursday night class that week that would be heaven..then I can meet you! I'll be in NYC on Fri and Sat though. Back to DC by Sunday, so I can feasibly take the Sun morn class. I have to look into transportation. Im relying on the train that whole week. Do you know if the studio is train accessible?

For sure! We're a block from the Clarendon station, the third stop west of DC on Metro's Orange Line. Where will you be staying?

Im staying with my sister. She actually lives in MD. I am familiar with your Metro lines. Yay! I'll formulate a game plan soon. You do take thursday night class yes? I want to make sure we meet up!
