Thread: looking for male arabic dancer NE England 9th August 2008

I am looking for a male arabic dancer to teach a workshop (men & women) & do performance on 9th August 2008 in Durham City, NE England. Is there anyone from UK or touring UK available on this date? Please contact me if you are interested & can help. ,r:;

There are only two male Arabic dancers who teach in the UK, as far as I'm aware, and they are both London based.

Isn't Jim Boz in the UK around this time? Or will he have left already?

It might be worth contacting Kay Taylor at Farida Dance (Home), as she is based in NE England, and might know of someone, although I agree with Beafarhana, the only 2 I know if are Shafeek and Khaled...and Ozgen - isn't he UK based?

ETA - sorry, Zafirah, yes, JimBoz would be good too if he's still around.

Good luck. The dance scene has hitherto been so hostile to male dancers in Great Britain, that there aren't very many. This is, slowly, changing.

I didn't include him, because salsajenny asked for Arabic, and he's Turkish. But in the spirit of fairness his site is www.dance-show.biz

I think Guy Schalom was not yet mentioned. He visited Finland last March, that's all I know about him.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions so far. Unfortunately Ozgen is out of UK and Jim Boz is in Ireland. I'm awaiting replies from the others.

I think dance in general is becoming more popular in UK now and hopefully this will encourage UK men to be less inhibited about using dance to express themselves as men in most other countries do without any fear.

Actually my event is to bring together threads from different dance cultures so I wouldn't mind specifically which country's dance style is represented. Turkish dance would be fine, but as I mentioned Ozgen is already busy on the day in question.

Thanks for the message from straightleftknee too. I cannot seem to reply to you directly. Keeping my fingers crossed. Shafeek is available but not sure yet if he will agree to come along ..c::.

Thanx for mentioning him - I had never heard of him before; another addition to my male dancer's link page!
