Thread: Spinning and Oriental Arms workshops w/Sonya 7/26 (IL)

Secrets of Spinning Technique (10:30am-noon)
Do you wish to learn the secrets of being able to
spin with abandon? Do you falter or fall at more than 2 or 3
consecutive turns? This class provides the fundamental techniques of
maintaining turns at beginner through advanced levels. We'll focus on
establishing proper body alignment & posture, spotting techniques, and
turns that travel in addition to stationary spinning. Both slow
turning (for taxims) & faster spinning (into pose for finales) will be
focused on for Sonya's 'volume knob' approach. Participants would
benefit from a basic understanding of fundamental belly dance
movements. Program FC152S-08 $22 resident/$25 non-resident

Oriental Arms (1-2:30pm)
Polished performance requires that all aspects flow
together in harmony. Most dance competition judges will tell you lack
of arm position & grace is the one dead give-away to an amateur
performer. Without over-working your muscles, we'll train the back to
carry the load, while honing the techniques that make all 4 types of
snake arms look like you have rubbery bones! Interspersed with hand
undulations, circles & lotus flowers, you'll leave with a stronger
sense of what your arms are capable of - whether framing a hip move or
working with a veil, good arm form will take your dancing to the next
level. Handout included. Program FC153S-08 $22 resident/$25 non-resident
