Wow! That's exciting! The Midwest hasn't had a competition (that I'm aware of) since MEDINA stopped a couple of years ago.

I don't consider myself a potential tiara-wearer, but it would be fun to come up & play!

It IS short notice and I'm sorry about that. I've been kicking the idea of sponsoring a competition around for a couple of years and planned to start next year but with Hafla By The Lake getting cancelled it seemed like a sign! Next year it will have categories for student solos/troupes and more

I don't think I have a chance in heck of winning, but I would love to enter! Especially if the judges are going to make their feedback available - I think it would be so incredibly valuable to me.

Some quick answers to email questions I'm getting...

*contestant registration is first-come, first-served with an absolute maximum of 15 contestants

*additional judges are TBA

*there will be a People's Choice award that the audience will vote on, but audience applause/participation will have no bearing on the judges' scoring

*dancers from outside the region are welcome and encouraged to enter

*this will be a "Middle Eastern music only" event

*there are no student dancer categories this year but there will be next year!

*additional prizes are TBA, but there will be some kick-butt trophies and the winner gets a tiara too ..l;,

Dude, next year, I'll totally be there for the student dancer competition!

You planning on having it the same weekend every year? It conflicts with another big BD event here in Chicago that always happens on that weekend. I'd hate to have to choose between them every year!!

Sad that I will not likely be there this year.... unless I get get a really late spot in the order of things, but I'm guessing it'll be random, eh?

This year the date was dictated by the park availability for Hafla By The Lake, there won't be a conflict next year. Yes the lineup will be randomly selected...I suspect there will be a small child, slips of paper and a hat involved

I checked my calendar. I'm available, and it's a week after my student show, so I have to work up some kind of kick-a$$ solo for that anyway.

I don't think it's there yet -- the link says 'info coming soon' and that was just day before yesterday. She'll probably post here as soon as details are ready.
