Thread: Invitation

I am a former professional belly dancer and now the owner of a hookah lounge/coffee shop. I would like to invite dancers, musicians, teachers to a Belly Dance Jam Session, date TBD, but most likely after the holidays. I am also interested in finding a teacher willing to teach classes or seminars at the lounge.
We are located in Whiting, IN right off the Chicago Skyway. No alcohol, but food and coffee drinks (and, of course, hookahs) are available. We have a stage, professional sound and light system, music recording studio, and an awesome Egyptian-themed atmosphere. (Check it out on myspace.com/bluelotuscafe.)
I would love to make this happen. I haven't danced since before I got married and had 4 sons--om waladeen.

Looks like a great place - unfortunately it's a bit far for me. I can spread the word to some of the south side girls to see if they're interested or know of any one. Best of luck to you and your cafe.

I'm in Iowa, so a bit far away for coming to regular events. But who knows - I come to the Chicago area now and then for workshops and other dance events, so maybe someday I'll be able to drop by!

I wish I lived nearby, I would absolutely come there!!

Several customers have expressed an interest in learning to dance. I am not sure what format would be best here--workshops or weekly (biweekly) classes, or some other arrangement. I am flexible. Maybe the jam session or a performance would generate some commitment. I would be willing to explore options.

Hey there! Did you ever get my reply to your email? I haven't heard back! Blue Lotus Tribe is definitely interested in working with you!

I am happy to hear of this event. I live in Ohio, but have family in Chicago. Next time I am planning a trip (which probably won't be till after the holidays), I'd love to drop you a line and see if I could make an appearance at your cafe! I would love that! Keep us posted!

I would love to come out and perform sometime and maybe even teach a few classes. I live near the Indiana/Ohio line. If you are interested send me a message and I will send you my dance resume. I am an Egyptian Cabaret performer and have done some fantastic shows around the world and in my own backyard.

Good luck with your new lounge! I saw the pictures and the place looks great! I'm on the southside of Chicago. I would love to attend and possibly perform at Haflas or other events that you may sponser. Just send me a message and keep me in the loop!

I'm totally intersted in being a patron, not experiienced enough to dance or teach, but I'd love to come hang out and support whoever you hire!!

How about a one hour workshop followed by a hafla? Teach some basic moves and combos, then have some performances by local dancers and some time for open dance for the "students" to put their moves to the test. Maybe have a vendor selling hip scarves and other BD stuff. Could even throw in a drum jam.

This sounds like it's turning into a fun time!

Carissa, what do you think? Probably a Sat. would be better for me as I have a (sigh) Day Job throughout the week!!

Maybe we could work on a few soloist pieces, then come up with a group improv or teaching lesson. I know Carissa has a lot of teaching experience (as a matter of fact she was my first "real" teacher-tee-hee;-) Love ya Gal! And I'm sure you do too, Amira. I've taught a few beginner workshops, but am mostly interested in getting a chance to boogie!

Sounds like a plan to me:) I have been needing an excuse to write something new. The last one I did for one of my girls and its a Bellydance Hip hop fusion...very funky but not particularly difficult. She is big into the Zumba right now so we created something fun. I like to choreograph with a theme or event in mind. I will have to ponder this one....hmmm **the creative wheel begins to turn**
Saturdays are good for me too. I teach college online so I just bring my laptop and work wherever but I try to have everything wrapped up so that I can do workshops and classes on Saturdays. Jan 10th is the only saturday that I can not do anything. I have a bridal show that I am modeling in. I love that:) Put on the pretty dress for a day and play princess and not have to buy the silly thing. woo hoo:)
