I'M LOOKING FOR A DANCING MENTOR, WHO WILL HELP ME THROUGH THIS BUSINESS AND HELP ME THROUGH MY CHOICES..PREFERABLY WHO IS PROFESSIONAL AND WILING TO TAKE CHANCES WITH ME AND SUPPORT ALL THE IDEAS I HAVE.

SHOULD BE IN GLASGOW AREA AND WILLING TO TAKE IT SERIOUSLY.

I HAVE ALOT TO OFFER AND THEARITICAL WORK IDEAS BUT IM READY TO START FROM SCRATCH AND SMALL AND SEE WHERE IT TAKES ME.

US I MEAN WITH MY FUTURE MENTOR..

Bhuzzer, Zafira is in Glasgow and so is Whigglewiz (I don't know her dance name or real name.)
Zafira is a wonderful dancer and you can see her on youtube.

If you ever make it to Edingburgh I believe Caroline is there.

Zafirah is in London now, but she may be able to chime in with some suggestions.

Wigglewhiz's real name is Jen. She hasn't been around Bhuz much lately -- I miss her!

There are 2 dance agencies who, if they take you on and will get you gigs and take "care " of you. These are run by well known dancers and take on people throughout the country though in Kay's case mostly Scotland and the north.
Tracy's taste of cairo and Kay's in newcastle I'll get links and add. Both are on Buz but not very often.

I actually used to live in Edinburgh, but I know the scene in Glasgow, and its not great news I'm afraid. There isn't really a professional 'scene' and the established teachers tend to be pretty hostile to anyone new (especially if they are talented!). I haven't heard from Jen for a long time, but last I heard there wasn't a lot of performance work going her way. There is one nice dancer called Kareema/Karena but I don't know any of her details.

Caroline (bellydancingcaroline) has started organising workshops and haflas with visiting teachers in Glasgow as well as Edinburgh, that might be your best place to start networking.

As for the agencies, their recruitment process has always been something of a mystery to me . . .

I have to agree with Zafirah. There are very few places to dance outside of the belly dance community, and people who I have seen recently making a success of it have become teachers/performers on the bellydance circuit. I believe there are more opportunities further south.

Imman - I just thought - you should come dance at my Hafla with Aziza on 7th Feb - it's in Edinburgh rather than Glasgow, but you'd be very welcome. email or PM me for more info.
