Thread: Belly Dance Nationals Competition-Updated Information 3.13.09

Thanks to Makeda for posting the Belly Dance Nationals Competition information! Registrations are flying in! Just briefly, I wanted to toss in some further information regarding the BDNC event.

-Branding the BDNC was important to us! A marketing executive friend of mine told us to go with our style - contemporary and modern. Yes, we are belly dancers, but as the organizers of the BDNC, we are public servants too! Feedback and suggestions from YOU shaped this event. We didn't make a move until we heard from our public, fans, and supporters! We have spent many meetings, brainstorming sessions, and trend studies to give the Belly Dance Nationals Competition a sturdy foundation. Thanks to Alexandra for handing over the reins of the Jewel of the Nile to us - she gave us such good bones to build upon and thank you for all of your help and comments.

- WANT TO BE A FUTURE INSTRUCTOR? We are aware that there are phenomenal dancers and instructors out there that need to be seen and recognized for their talents, but are unfortunately still unknown. How many doors have you knocked on only to be met with silence? We believe that honoring our roots in dance is important, but we also know that we need to capture our upcoming generation of bellydancers and bellydance instructors. Contact us!

-Want to see a specific instructor or performer? Let us know. This was one of the biggest areas of feedback. You, the bellydance consumers are asking for more variety in instruction and shows. You can let me know here on Bhuz or you can reach out to me personally.

-High Advertising Costs keeping you from promoting? At BDNC not only will you receive an ad in our full color program magazine, but you will receive live links on our website for one full year! This is perfect new costumers and vendors seeking to stamp out a place in our dance community.

-We are always seeking judges and alternate judges. Please contact me directly.

- Although we are lucky enough to have a few large sponsors, we welcome charities, health and environmental causes, and organizations for pets. Contact me directly for free or discounted advertising.

-I know it's crazy, but yes, I still have a national workshop teaching and performance schedule. Don't be afraid to ask. It is going to be a busy year!

Waaaahhh! I just checked the date and it is literally the same day as my friend's wedding in Baltimore! I'm her Maid of Honor so I think she'd notice if I went missing :(

Oh no, Razia! I can't believe you'll be in Baltimore, but miss it! What time is the wedding? Maybe you can make it to the Gala show that night???

I like to shamelessly solicite my services...if you would be interested in bringing a Turkish style instructor to your event...in the near future.

I know--this is too annoying! I don't know any details about the wedding yet, but if there's any way I can swing attending the show and just saying hi to people, I'll do it! I'm a big fan of the NDC anyway, and if Azhia's gonna be there......

I already registered and had problems with the registration site, but finally got it to work for me. Now my dance partner is trying to register, has tried to submit her pre-reg form 5 times now and it will not process. She gets a message that if you have a problem to email. However, we have called a few times and emailed several times and no response. This is very frustrating as she wanted to enter the Pro category and now it's full, and the other 2 categories then substituted are almost full.

What do we do? Can I get a pm so that we can resolve this problem?

I know I know that I have personally followed up with you, but I just wanted everyone to know that the link has been fixed by the form designer.

If anyone has any further trouble, please inform us immediately so that we can take care of it. I will personally call and follow up with you.

Updated Category and Waitlist information - 3.13.09

We've received some questions about why the categories have filled so quickly. Some have asked if they are indeed full. We realize it's only March and the competition is not until November and we apologize to any who want to compete but have found their chosen category full. Those categories listed as full, are, indeed full, though you are free to enter yourself as a Wait List candidate in Proptastic and Alternative/Fusion Troupe.

We want to thank you, the dance community, for your support of our event and for your willingness to share your talent. We greatly appreciate all those entrants who registered so quickly! We applaud your professionalism and look forward to this event. We hope that the BDNC will long be a vehicle to push the art of bellydance forward. Thank you for encouraging and supporting this new venture!
