Thread: Alia's Sofa Surfing Tour of Fame

Hi everyone

I have recently embarked on my 2009 Sofa-Surfing Tour of Fame,
10,000 miles in 10 weeks (woo-hoo!)

This means I'll be dancing across thecountry and back again over the next
two months, traveling the East, South, and West coasts, and driving home across the Midwest, returning to VT in early May.

I made a cute little site for the tour, with a map, dates, workshop ideas, etc:

My goal is to meet people and have fun, so if you think of anyone I should
know (or anyone we can crash with), please hook us up. I would love to perform at haflas etc, and guest teach classes and/or workshops.

Cool, a tour!

Alia, we met at one of Mary Ellen's events a few years back. Looks like you'll be in the bay area around Rakkasah? Would love to see you there, and maybe hook up before or after. Most of my shows are in April and June (shows where I need guest dancers), but it would be great to see ya! Drop me a line, maybe you can guest teach one of my classes.

Mary Ellen Donald? Might not have been me, though we may have met somewhere else. I attended a lot of stuff out here Jan-May of 2006, and Rak W and Leila in LA in 07 & 08.

I will be around at Rakkasah time - I'm dancing at 9:16 on Friday night- and I'd love to guest teach, if that works out.

I'll be in Eugene/Portland until around the end of the month, then coming back down to SoCal, so either end works for me. I PM'd you my email. Thank you!

Oh how weird...yes it was at her annual event in Oakland, in...2006 I think. Lots of live music, I danced, Nanna Candelaria's troupe danced, and dancer named Jawahare danced. I am having a real space case moment here, sorry! Oh well, sorry for the confusion...I know we met somewhere, because I have your card (with the awesome photo from your website).

Not me <sigh>. Things I did in 1-5/2006: Hafla San Diego, Belly Dancer of the Universe, Aida Noor in LA, Rak W, and a weekend of Exprimental ME Dance with Amara & the Desert Sin folks. Plus a dance thing in Santa Barbara for a dramatic reading of an original play, "They Say She is Veiled," by Maya Shaw Gale. I know I'm forgetting something. It was a total bellydance blur.

Shadiyah, we loved meeting you too! Hung out with Rom at Rak, lay around at Harbin Hot Springs for a couple days, then had a really fabulous time in Eugene.

We were fortunate to stay with the lovely, gracious Elena Villa, a beautiful dancer. MEDGE is a wonderful organization, and the community they have developed is so warm. The show was a great cross section of styles and I think everyone at the workshop had a pretty good time. Every moment there was a pleasure.

Lauren_, I'm sorry we will miss you! I particularly want to be in St. Louis as my Mom is from there, and I visited many times when my grandmother was still alive. Maybe we will meet next time. Please let me know if there is any event I should attempt to attend while I am in the area.

Loved seeing you, too! I got a beautiful half circle veil from your friend the silklady. White with a rich red violet/sky blue border. William says I look like the Madonna in it. Do you have video of your contest-winning show online somewhere?

I remember that veil, I'm so glad you bought it! Is William with you here? I sent you an email, hoping you can come to our restaurant while you're here.

If you plan to come to San Diego, love to have you in our famous Greek Restaurant showcase third Sunday of each month. If you come around end of May, I will be judging a competition in Tijuana Mexico which is like 15min from where I am and Leila will be teaching workshop and the competition and gala will be on Friday and Saturday.

I'm in Santa Barbara, CA for the next few weeks. I'm hoping to make it to the thing in Fullerton on Sat, if anyone wants to meet up.
