Thread: "Let's Beat Cancer by Dancing" (IL)

Hi everybody!
At the March Sphinx Hafla at Mango I was approached by Mission Green Light.
They are sponsoring project: "Let's Beat Cancer by Dancing".
Project Mission Green Light is a non-profit organization,
and they are looking for belly dance instructors to help out.

They will be offering dance lessons the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of every month
6-7pm Belly Dance
7-8pm Salsa
at Mango Restaurant, 8743 N. Milwaukee Ave, in Niles

They start, YEP, TOMORROW!
They are looking for somebody to teach the 6-7pm belly dance class.

(I am already working this Tuesday, so I can't make it)

He told me this is by volunteer.
And asked if anybody would be interested.
I said he may? get an instructor if they could promote their own events,
and if he paid for gas money?
so, we'll see.....

Great idea, but I teach my own classes on Tuesdays. Hope they raise some good cash for the cause, though.

I teach on Tuesday nights too. You think they would have a teacher lined up before they promoted the event.. yes?

Seriously? They started advertising this without first having a belly dance teacher on board to do it? Are they nuts?

I don't teach on Tue. nights so I could probably help out but not tonight! I had to be up by 3a this morning for my project's go-live. *sigh*

Let me know if they need someone for the 24th, okay?

I received a call last Monday for a 30 minute class for TUESDAY!
They already had posters, and sold tickets...
Of coure I couldn't make it.

It looks like their program is expanding soon...
"In the third week of April we planning to start our weekly free heart clinic for the uninsured women. We will be glad to help anyone with EKG reading by a cardiologist and all type of cholesterol tests."

What's funny is one of my troupemates can teach bellydance *and* salsa!

Thanks for the email. Turns out I have to work late all of this month so I won't be able to help out in March. Maybe I can lend a hand in April if they are still doing this.

Well, I take it back. I can't turn down a good cause and everyone else I know already teaches or has plans for March 24th. I'll just have to sneak out of work and get over there as quickly as I can. Hopefully they will find another volunteer for April. I don't know why they didn't plan ahead?!? ..c::

Thank God, I found someone for Tuesday the 24th. Zafirah has kindly agreed to teach the class. Our next class is on Tuesday, April 14, 2009.

I see that they found a volunteer for the 24th. I guess I'll rearrange my schedule back to what it was!
