Thread: Looking for teacher in Waco or near Waco

I'm looking for a teacher either in Waco or near Waco but am not having much luck. Does anyone have any recommendations or knowledge of a teacher?

What kind of teacher are you looking for? If you're willing to drive to Austin or Dallas, then you have a ton of options! I don't know of any teachers in Waco. Killeen has a couple of classes at Central Texas College through their continuing education program and there is a teacher in Copperas Cove that teaches Tribal Fusion and ITS. That's all I can think of in the immediate area.

As far as I know, there's no one teaching or dancing in Waco & the one venue/restaurant, Yianni's, closed in late 2007 I think? Anyway, Dallas & the surrounding/outlying areas will probably be your closest resource. We're in a similar boat here - Austin is our closest. Good luck ..g.:

Oooh, I didn't even think about Waco being closer to Dallas. I think there are even more options there than in Austin. I had a teacher that was a former student of Isis from Isis and the Stardancers. I've heard nothing but good things about her. (I wish my teacher was still around...wonder what ever happened to her.)

I believe Julie Webb of the Webb Gallery in Waxahachie teaches belly dance and hosts haflas. Webb Gallery. Waxahachie is even closer to Waco than Dallas.

Another idea might be to come to the next Kismet Hafla open stage performance in Dallas on May 23. Several professional dancers who teach often perform, so it's a good way to see if there's anybody who's style you particularly like and would be willing to commute for. I agree that Isis' studio has a good reputation but her studio is almost in Fort Worth, another 20-30 minutes west of downtown Dallas. Actually I don't know of anyone who teaches close to downtown - all the Dallas teachers seem to be in the far-flung suburbs. I would plan on a 1 hr & 45 minute to 2-hour commute from Waco to just about any teacher in the Dallas / Fort Worth area.

On the other hand, if Julie is still teaching in Waxahachie that is probably only a 1-hour drive.
