Turkish Gypsy in Cleveland
Hello from Istanbul,
My name is Delpha and my husband David Reihs and I have been living and studying Turkish music and Romany dance in Istanbul for the past three years. We are planning to come home for only two weeks and we will be passing through Cleveland Ohio the week of June 15th to visit family in North Royalton.
For many years we performed and taught professionally in the Portland, Oregon Middle Eastern music and dance community. David is primarily a percussionist on darbuka and riq and have studied with some of the top teachers, including Souhail Kaspar, Karim Nagi of Turbo Tabla and Tobias Roberson. Delpha has studied Egyptian Raks Sharki for several years with Aziza (of Montreal, formerly of Portland) and has spent the last three years learning Turkish Roman dance here in Istanbul with Reyhan Tuzsuz.
If anyone would be interested in hosting some music workshops (perhaps you might be interested in the Turkish split finger technique??) and/or a Turkish Gypsy dance class in the Cleveland area, please let us know and we'd be happy to send more information.

Re: Turkish Gypsy in Cleveland
Hi again,
About Oregon, yes! We'll be in Portland for one week before going to Cleveland and we're both teaching workshops in Portland on Sunday June 14th around from around 1:00 - 5:00 (I haven't got the details sorted quite yet). It'll be at Jane's studio. David will be teaching Darabuka and sharing the jedi master techniques of Turkish playing and other stuff...I think he's going to do an Ud lesson too - teaching the drill that he learnt from the Istanbul's Udi (Ud master) Necati Celik. And I'll be doing a three or four hour basics of Roman dance workshop too.
About Cleveland. As things turned out, there wasn't much of a response and it seems that there are quite a few events already on the books for the local groups - so we don't want to be too intrusive, but I've had one offer to be a guest teacher for a night at a local studio. So, I'd be happy to do a small group or private lesson in Cleveland if anyone wants to learn the down and dirty street Roman moves I've picked up here.
See you all in about a month and I'll Keep everyone posted about what's going on in a weeks or so.
Love!
Delpha
