It's a heads-up to Bhuzzers about a wonderful event in the greater Los Angeles area this summer!

BELLY DANCE BASICS WORKSHOP, HAFLA & SWAP MEET!

Workshop: Noon-1:45pm
Hafla & Swap Meet: 2:00-5:00pm

A Workshop starts the day. "Performance Skills: Group and Solo Dancing," is an introduction to such skills as stage directions, entering and exiting the stage, movement patterns and more! The new or aspiring dancer will definitely take home some good tools and ideas to to incorporate into his/her dancing right away. The workshop is taught by yours truly.

The Hafla features performances by all levels of dancer; this is a very casual and warm atmosphere perfect for first-timers! It's a fun venue for experienced dancers, pros and teachers, too, of course! Admission includes a light buffet featuring Mediterranean goodies for your noshing pleasure! Prospective dancers: it is strongly recommended that you reserve a dance slot in advance; although sign-ups might be available at the door, there's a very good chance that all dance slots will be "full" prior to the Hafla.

The Swap Meet is a new aspect of the Hafla where you can offer your loved-but-no-longer-needed BD items for sale to an appreciative BD public looking for great bargains! Swapmeet sellers must reserve their spaces in advance. No commercial vendors.

(Ra-chell can usually win the prize for "traveling the greatest distance" when she attends my events. It's so wonderful!)

We are camping this weekend so I can't make it, but I would love to be shopping and dancing so much more than...well, hot and dirty! (heh, don't tell hubby)

Festivities start just about 24 hours from now; we have 15 different sellers of loved-but-no-longer-needed BD items, so come on down and take advantage of some real bargains!

Ha ha, you tease!! Camping was actually fun up until hubby and both kids got into a car accident on the way back after I'd run off to rehearsal. Everyone is okay, thankfully, but our car is totalled and the dude at fault (in the brand new Audi) lapsed on his insurance. grrrr,m::

It's bad enough for hubby to be in an accident; kids and car wrecks are enough to stop one's heart! Aren't there some sort of penalities for not carrying insurance??? If it's a requirement to carry insurance to operate a car in CA, then there sure ought to be some penalty for not doing it. Gah!

Smash. HA! I get it! Yes, the event was very good -- I thought so, anyway. With performances about every 5 minutes and only a couple of short breaks, I didn't have any time for my own shopping; saw a few sparkley things worth more investigation, tho . . .

Will be doing this again next year in either August or September; if folks have a preference, I'd love to hear about it!

Long story, dude was subleasing the car from a friend and they had their own contract, yadda yadda...

The police made a full report, and the guy had "proof" of insurance in the car but we found out yesterday that it was not paid up. So the guy that flew across 2 lanes to ram into my family gets off with no punishment and somehow only $6,000 worth of damage to the car which isn't even his...and we get squat.

Annoying, but more than anything I'm just happy everyone was safely buckled and only had some minor soreness.

I'm excited to hear you're making it a new annual event, Deb!! FYI, as far as our records show, August has been the busiest 'belly' month in LA for the last 3 years for some reason, with lots more overlapping events and such than any other time period.

You know, even tho that flyer-across-two-lanes-to-smack-into-your-family guy showed "proof" of insurance, he didn't really have insurance, now did he? I should think your insurance company would be interested in pursuing the implications of that info. Hope you have a good outcome with all this mess! (been there/done that more than once!)

Do you have uninsured motorist? If so, the insurance company will go after him. If not, you can sue him and eventually attach his wages. I'm sorry this happened to your family. Rain

And will have to keep my eyes open for the date of your next Market at the Casbah in the spring. Do you have a mailing list to sign up for?

We bought the car with cash so we didn't opt for comp/collision, and the uninsured motorist payout won't cover our loss.

From what the police and insurance are saying, we'd have to sue the actual owner of the car, and then he would have to in turn sue his friend, the guy that hit my family. Sounds like a messy PITA. :/

Really, I'm just glad everyone's okay -- it could have been a lot worse!
