Belly Dance Evolution Competition and Audition.

Intriguing!

If any MN dancer successfully video-auditions and is invited to the week of training/performance with Jillina, I'll contribute $20 toward her travel/lodging costs for the trip. If there's more than one, you'll have to split it.

ETA: I'm not affiliated with the contest, I just think it would be cool to have a local dancer "representing".

i cant wait for the info the appear on the european version they seem to be planning, and i'm hoping even more it doesnt clash with any major already existing events here...

So is this the reason for Miles' article? Well it sounds like a powerful event. Very interesting also that Jillina brings in artists from Moldova and Georgia plus of Russian descent.

I think I might try it. Just for fun ya know... I love Jillina's choreos normally. If anything came of it, that would be a bonus.

So is it safe to say that Jillina is no longer with the BDSS?

Jillina says in her bio that she was the artistic director and main choreographer for BDSS from 2003 until 2009, and "continues to serve as one of their principle [sic] choreographers." So I don't think all ties are broken, but I doubt she's going to be touring with them anytime soon.

Its bad that they do not do it here in UK...Would have loved to go and have a great experience.

ya i think jillina had issues with the bdss
but she still contributes pieces to the show
and obviously they recycle old pieces choreographed by her
how do you participate in her contest thingie?

Go to the website link. Its $40 to enter. I am going to do it after I get back from Vegas. Don't have anything to lose and if nothing else I am sure I will learn some interesting new combos from the choreography.

I think it's much more likely that Jillina will come up with a new choreography for her new project. She is a choreographer, after all...g.:

The audition choreography is to the Paul Dinletir song Entrance of the Stars, but the show is brand new. Paul is composing all new music for this show and it will be totally different from anything BDSS did.

Jillina is making this show more like a ballet in terms of that is has a story line and characters, vs. a showcase of dancers. There are 2 male Georgian dancers as well. So, it will hopefully be something really cool. The main cast that will travel all over the world doing the festival are: Jillina, Ansuya, Kaeshi, Louchia, Elizabeth Strong, Elyassa and the Georgian dancers and the audition is to cast the additional cast, which will be different in each location. That way local dancers have the opportunity to train and perform with the main cast.

It's Jillina's goal to have the festival travel all over the world. Workshops taught by the main dancers, the performance and local competitions to cast the local dancers.

She's working Malaysia and Europe next but exact dates haven't been set yet.

Hmm. That makes me actually consider seeing it, if it's within 6 hours of me.

Also, $40 and you get a full choreography to learn -- is that right? That's not bad, really. I think I paid $50 for her IAMED videos. I might "enter" just to check out the choreography.

I think Jillina is adorable, and I've always wondered what kind of production she could create if she were -- "unfettered" -- artistically.

I think in one of her Schmooze Letters she was going to concentrate on choreographing more and dancing less. Maybe she is making a career change so to speak and doing more behind the scenes as opposed to being onstage as much.

I still hope she will come to Chicago to give a workshop!

well, khalida and me were in germany this weekend and took three absolutely FABULOUS workshops with jillina. it had been a while since i took workshops with her. and they were great. billed as advanced and she kept them at high level too, smallish groups. the drum solo was new and fabulous.

great show too and everything incredibly well organised by the way (by Djamilla, she's on bhuz sometimes and has worked with jillina a lot)

anyway, Jillina said she was going to bring this to europe too, probably germany and somewhere eastern europe too. exciting!!!
i hope i can go. and i'm going to be checking out her european tour shedule anyway, i want moore jillina workshops!
