Looking for an instructor in Manhattan area

    Hey ladies,
I have a previous student looking to get back into dancing. She's needing to find an instructor in Manhattan. Any suggestions?

Nourhan Sharif and Jehan are there, too. Plus, any of the members of Bellyqueen!

Our studio, where she took lessons, is more american cabaret with Turkish influences. I would figure she's probably looking to stay more cabaret than tribal.

Serena's Studio in Midtown has excellent teachers in the more American style vein.

I would also suggest Maryiah (a Bhuzzer) whose veil work is to die for.

Dalia Carella (turkish influnce and quite the wonderful character)

Ranya will be teaching group classes again in Queens soon. She's very Egyptian style.

Nourhan is currently not teaching group classes.

Anahid Sofian does great floor work and is very old school.

Kaeshi Chai and the Bellyqueen girls offer interesting classes (some are more fusion and tribally)

Jehan is good, but not for beginners, you need to already know your fundamentals and be prepared to follow and keep up with her. I would only reccomend high intermediate and advanced dancers take her classes.

Thanks Tanya! I knew many of the well known dancers are based there but I wasnt sure which ones offered group classes.

No problem, if she ever wants to drop by Je-Bon on Wednesday nights I'll introduce her to Kaeshi and the guys from Djinn, it's a great time and there are plenty of wonderful dancers and teachers who hang out there.

Again i have to second Tanya's recommendations and quadruple second on anahid sofian, especially if your girl wants cabaret with turkish influence. she does a whole mix of stuff and you play zills in almost every single class. she doesn't let that skill get rusty - truly one of the greats. and her floor workshop classes are better and more fun than i have ever taken anywhere else.

For classes in Manhattan in the styles your student is interested in I would say Anahid and Dalia. :)
