Thread: Looking for an instructor in the greater Watertown area

I'm not sure on all of the styles, nor have I seen all of them (put simply, I'm really rather ignorant and only just branching out from what I little have seen,) so I'm not dead set on any particular style.

I take that to mean there is no one nearby/interested?

I don't personally know of anyone teaching in the area (I'm in Rochester--howdy, neighbor!), but that doesn't mean anything. Have you checked out the instructor directory on All About Belly Dancing! Exploring The Art of Middle Eastern Dance! Learn About Belly Dance!, and the more local-to-you Syracuse Area Bellydancer Association web site (saba.hiptwist.org)?

You *may* have to do some traveling, either south to Syracuse or north to Kingston, ON, where you can take classes with the lovely Adishakti (Egyptian Belly Dance & Folklore with Adishakti - Kingston, Ontario) or the lovely Kellye (Oasis).

I'm sure if anyone knows more, they'll chime in if they see your post. Good luck! Feel free to PM me if you have questions.

Gah! So sorry for not answering this sooner, especially since you took the time to give such a thorough reply, but moving is so hectic. Unpacking everything is a pain.

Wow, you are close. ^^ I did check out the available directory, but I do believe Syracuse slipped my mind--thank you. I'll definitely have to check the latter out.

As for traveling to take classes with Miss Adishakti, I don't know if that would be an option, with the way border security is now. I don't have a passport, and I don't know if my military I.D. will work..
Also, speaking of the military, I'm afraid to join a class now, as we've recently learned that my dad will be going back overseas in January... I'll be seventeen then, but unless we fix something very quickly I will be more than likely be sent to live the year with relatives down south.
As in Corpus Christi, "down south."
So, sadly,I'm going to have to ask for recommendations on instructional videos, as that seems like the best bet for me currently... D:

I strongly recommend that you try to find a live teacher before jumping into learning with videos, however. Try googling "belly dance Kentucky" and see what comes up.
