Exclamation where to see dancing in LA Friday night?

i'll be down in the Los Angeles area this coming Friday night and would love to see dancing! i'm googling and finding that most places have a pre-fixe menu that's a little on the spendy side. i'd rather spend my money on tips than food ..l;, any leads???

    thanks!

hmmm, all that we have on the Calendar this Friday is the Dar Maghreb showcase (I think it's $45 for the meal and 5 student to semi-pro dancers) or the Spinster's Ball (fantasy theater production).

The restaurants with dancers list is here, but I don't know prices and if there is a set menu for each: LARaqs - Los Angeles Belly Dancers

Are you not here on Saturday? There is an inexpensive live music showcase at Sam's...

Taji, who's occasionally on Bhuz, dances at Babouch but I don't know her schedule. Which male dancers are there, I wonder?? I'd love a report too! :)

ooo eshta that sounds fun... but glendale maybe a bit of a schlep for me that night. i also have serious family drama happening right now, so i'm feeling more 'passive observer' than 'dance all night'.

that's so cool that they have open floor dancing!!! and i love amir sofi! sometimes i wish i still lived down there... can i take a rain check? i usually go down a couple of times a year. it would be fun to meet you and other bhuzzers in person and get my groove on (doing little dance in my chair at work).

eta-i'm staying in san pedro if the schlep comment was confusing ;)

Taji is usually on Thursday nights, but subs occasionally for other shows. I'll ask her about this week's lineup.

    More info re: Baboush/San Pedro:

Shayla is scheduled to dance this coming Friday, accompanied periodically in her set by another dancer who happens to be of the male gland.

Although I don't know who the other dancer is, Shayla is a long-time, excellent dancer who is very popular with her audiences.

Re: where to see dancing in LA Friday night?

here's the low down on the dancing at baboush...

we saw the first set of the evening, and shayla was lovely. she did veil work with finger cymbals on (a big woot for that), generally a fairly standard restaurant set. she played with some of the men, nothing over the top. it was all good fun and of course the diners loved it. she had on a gorgeous cossie, leopard print with cut outs. and i especially loved her back bends (jealous) and very fun personality.

the male dancer (hakim?) seemed very new and kinda awkward. his movement vocabulary seemed limited and he could use some practice in working a room. also, when i'm sitting in a low booth, his crotch is level with my face... a good reason to not dance so close..w.: my friend was a little weirded out by that. granted he was young and fit, but i want to see more than that in any bellydancer.

i got up to dance with him and shayla and it was definitely an entertaining show over all. my friend didn't get up to dance, but still enjoyed watching the show. she has never seen me dance and kept yelling for me to 'do some bellydance moves' ..l;, she yells this as i'm doing hip drops!

eshta-your workshop starts too late :( i will have to catch you another time!
