They are looking for a dancer for this Saturday, and probably for more days in September, with the possibility of being on the schedule regularly.

John is rapidly approaching end of days for him, but he'll play as long as he is able to. If you've never had the chance, do it - once he's gone, he's gone and the likes of him will never pass this way again.

I just saw John at Claire de Lune in July and he was fine. Helen was with him, and said that he has dialysis treatments twice per week, and has no problems with them.

John seems physically better than 2 years ago so I am hoping he is better. Actually if you didn't know know he was ill, you would never guess. He plays almost non-stop from 6 pm to about 9 pm or so, I think Friday - Saturday - Sunday.

I feel so fortunate to get to know him. Since I have been dancing there (normally in the summers only, on Sundays), I have also been going to school and had all kinds of assignments. He was gracious enough to talk to me once about his musical past / knowledge for a music class, and just last week, about the Armenian culture and history for my "diversity in the classroom" class.

At this restaurant there is large tourist clientele - I am only there on Sundays but they have been pretty busy, and the tips are great. I actually drive up there from El Cajon (45 minutes), but it's worth it, however I cannot do it on Fridays or Saturdays.

John will be playing at Claire de Lune on September 17. He's there every other third Thursday of the month.

He will also be playing at Bedouin Bazaar on Sunday from 5-6. the dance schedule with John has already been made, and there is a waiting list to dance with him.

So this is a perfect opportunity to dance with John AND make money at the same time :)

Yes, and consider it a privilege if you get to dance with John. There's not much live music left to dance to anymore.

I'm not privy to John's medical history. I'm aware of the dialysis and the energy it takes away from him. However, if things for him have taken a turn for the better, good for him (and for his beloved wife Helen).

I've been watching him perform for over 25 years (my first forays to out of town events) and he is still enjoyable now as he was then.

I just saw John on sat. He is doing well. He is going for dialisis 4 x a week it does drain people but he is doing what he loves and while we are a live we got to live. And do what we love. I too dance at that resturant but will be taking a break for awhile do to a surgery this week. I know the owner is looking for a few people , and he welcomes auditions. So it does not hurt to try out. I love the resturant it is a really great place to work. And to dance to live music.

I wish the place pays more...one of the few places in San Diego pays the least

I saw John this past Tuesday and he looked and sounded fine. It could be that I saw him on a day when things weren't going so well.

John is still a legend of music and I'm proud to call him and Helen friends of mine. I'm lucky that I live relatively close to places where he performs in the San Diego area and I never get tired of seeing him.

FYI, I'm going to that restaurant on Saturday just to see who performs that night (out of curiosity's sake). I used to be a regular there, but things changed over the last few years.

and by the way Armenian Cafe is not the one that pays the least. Marrakech pays less, especially if we consider the time length of dancing. At Marrakech it's 2x20 minutes - once I tried to cut it short, they complained. Also tips are not as much, although uit has nothing to do with the restaurant paying.
At the Armenian cafe it's 2 x 15 minutes the most, usually it's the shortest 15 minutes I've seen :) and the tips are MUCH better.

FYI, John did not perform on Saturday, so the dancers Rajin (who I saw) and Luisa (who I did not) went with their CD sets. John did perform on Sunday for Marianna who did two short sets.
