Thread: Calling all Orlando FL dancers

I have access to a pretty cool venue located in Orlando called the Cameo. Plenty of parking, full bar, green room area for dancers, great sound system, room for vendors. It's currently used as an art hall and they have concerts and poetry readings over the weekend.

Problem is, I don't live in Orlando. However, I will be there from Nov 9th-15th. Are there any dancers that are willing/wanting to help me put on a hafla show during that time frame? Is there enough interest to even throw a hafla around that time? Let me kn ow!

i'd be willing to help! :) I would love to participate, and I can get you in touch with one of my photographers who is putting together a hafla for next saturday actually.

This sounds interesting. I'm in the process of applying to jobs--desperately need one!--but I'd be happy to help out however I can.

Have you checked out the venue already? I don't think it would be very difficult to find bellydancers to come and have a good time. And, personally, I think it's a good time because it's right before the rush of the holidays AND after Halloween.

Yes, I visited the venue last weekend. Very artsty with exposed brick walls, and beam ceilings. Art work all over the room. Very cool vibe. It needed a hafla there :)

nijala, if you could send me some pics you might want to put in a flyer ASAP because given that this hafla in october i told you about has already started advertising, it would probably be a good idea to get on this ASAP as well to ensure people will come :)

Alright, hold the press... I just heard from the venue, and apparently, there was an event already in the books for Friday the 13th it just didn't make it to the online calendar yet. SO, they are offering a different day. Meaning weekday. Sadness. I dont know if it is worth doing a weekday hafla. We have them in Chicago...but...we're not in Chicago. Im not sure what I think about the whole thing now. Im traveling to Shimmy Tecumseh, MI this weekend. Let me sleep on it and get back to everyone. Input and opinions are much appreciated!

What about saturday?

Thursday might work. I'd first go with Saturday or Sunday. It's not completely out of the question to have events during the week. People might not stay past 10pm, though. Every now and then I go to music events on Monday nights--drum and bass, totally different crowd--and there are ppl out in downtown until 2pm. For the most part, it's usually dead at night.

for a hafla, i personally would go any night of the week ,r:; hehe but that's just me
but yah a thursday might work. but saturday or even a sunday would be a better choice and people probably won't stay out past 10 pm if it's a thursday or sunday.

Ok, I am back from MI :) Saturday was never offered because it was already booked. Sunday I leave back for Chicago. If Thursday is an option, I can inquire. I do not think it will be a problem. We can make sure it doesn't go too late. Most haflas should only take about 3 hours anyway. So if we started the event around 6 or 7, we have it end by 10pm, plenty of time for a party and people can still get to bed in time for work and school on Friday.. yes?

i would think so. keep in mind people would need time to get off work, get ready and get there...and traffic here SUCKS
