Thread: Now Casting Jillina's Bellydance Evolution

Hi Everyone!

In case you haven't heard, new locations have been announced for Jillina's "Bellydance Evolution" show & festival.

The dates and locations are as follows:

USA, Jan. 2010- New York
1/25-1/31

ASIA, Feb. 2010- South Korea & Bali, Indonesia
2/13-2/28

EUROPE, Mar. 2010- Hannover, Gemany & Budapest, Hungary
3/7-3/15

The deadline for the NYC competition has not as of yet been set in stone, but it will more than likely be on or about Jan. 1st. The winners will be chosen shortly thereafter and will have approximately 2-3 weeks to prepare for the week of rehearsal.

Also, please keep in mind that it is preferable for you to post your video within a week of registering for the competition as it shows how quickly you are able to learn choreography. This is important as the winners will be expected to pick up several numbers in a short period of time.

The site is back online now. It wasn't working for me too.

Hm...yeah, I know the site is constantly undergoing updates, so perhaps that was the problem.

For anyone who's considering auditioning, I highly recommend it. I did the Los Angeles show and had a really great experience. It was a ton of work but was well worth it; we were all really proud of the end result!

As part of the ensemble cast, you will have the opportunity to work with all of the lead dancers in the show - thus exposing you to different styles of the dance.

We were all pushed to our limits...but I personally find that these are the experiences that help one grow as a dancer. Plus it was a lot of fun!

Is the rehearsal from the 13?
Or from the week before the 13?

Hi Eshe,

Rehearsals will probably begin on or about the 13th. Jillina and the rest of the artists will be flying in around that time. Prior to that, the winners will be sent videos of the choreography to better prepare them for the week of rehearsal.

It is preferred that the winners chosen for the Asia competition be available to do both performances - S. Korea and Bali. However, I believe they are willing to make exceptions if you're only able to do one.

it's unclear to me when the european shows/rehearsals are?

the sponsor in hannover has on her website that the show is friday 12 march. so the rehearsals are the week before that i assume? and the hungary show is in the same weekend then? the dates were confusing me as i thought it meant one weekend in germany (with a weeklong) and the same in hungary (with a different weeklong)?

anyone know?

The shows in Hannover and Budapest are back to back. The Hannover show is on Friday, March 12th and the Budapest show is on Sunday, March 14th. Rehearsals will be in Germany ONLY the week prior to the show. That is the reason that the competition is only open to those who are available to perform in both shows.

I was cast in the 2 Asian shows and I can say this was the best experience of my life! I sooooooooo recommend it. I loved every second.

I know the European shows have just been cast. If this show comes to your area I would definitely recommend auditioning. :)

eshe, you're going to have to give us a longer review than that!!!

Ok. Here goes. We got the videos about a week before the show. Each of us were cast in 6-8 dances I think. We had to know all of the choreos before we got to rehearsal.

I think we averaged about 1 hour for 2 minutes of song on the first day. We just blocked mostly and walked thru the dances. I think we got thru about 4 songs a day. I don't usually dance for 8 hours a day so it was tiring on the body. Also on the brain, the choreos are obviously advanced and there are lots of formations and line changes to remember. It was Jillina and Heather (co-director) for the first 2-3 days. Louchia, Elizabeth, Sharon, Otar, Zurab and Kaeshi arrived later in the week.

Jillina was super awesome and a true dance Momma to all of us. Knew all of our names. From personally pinning on our costumes, to checking our makeup, helping with costume changes-she did it all herself and with love and kindness. There were obviously standards with the dancing, hair, makeup and costumes. And they were enforced. I grew up a lot working with this show.

I can't say enough how tiring it was the first week. We were dancing for 8 hours a day. On the 4th day our costumes were expected to be adjusted and we started doing run-thrus wearing them. The 5th and 6th days we did full rehearsal. The 7th day (show day) we did run thru at the theatre.

Some of the costume changes had to happen in 2 minutes or less. So that was frantic and a learning experience. Also keeping track of the huge set list, what props are where, watching your lines and your stage positioning.

We used feather fans, long silk fans, candles, canes and veils in the show. So you had to learn/know how to use them. Advanced backbends, spot turns, floorwork and lots of fusion-dances from India, Uzebekistan, etc all expected too.

Bali was a bit more relaxed. Only 2 full rehearsals and then stage blocking and then the show.
