Thread: Shimmy for the Cure - Elgin IL - COMPLETELY SOLD OUT!!

The Dancers of the Mystic Rose are sponsoring their 4th Shimmy for the Cure on Saturday May 26, 2007, at the Elgin American Legion. Proceeds from this benefit will support Team Shimmy Walkers for the Cure in the Komen 3-Day Walk in Chicago on August 10 - 12. Please come out for this fun event and help us put this team in motion.

We are so looking forward to this event! One slight change--Cat's students had some scheduling conflicts so Persephone's Daughters will perform instead (if that's okay). (We need to make sure to raise enough to get this team of Shimmy Walkers on the road to the finish line. Their team pledge is $8,800. That's the reason for the second Shimmy for the Cure. The Walk is August 10-12 in Chicago. If we go over the top of their pledge, we'll use the remainder of the money to help other Walkers reach their pledge goals.)

Maena ~ we have you and Atareen to thank for our benefit sucesses. You started the whole thing and we've just added on toit. We'll definitely miss you ~ you're always a joy to watch and hang out with.

You'll always be there in spirit, girlfriend!! As Amirah said, if it wasn't for you and Atareen - we wouldn't have had a clue about where to start! We miss your shining smile and awesome dancing. :broken_heart: If you ever get back here and want to jump in the lineup for one of the Shimmys, we'll always have a spot open for you.

Due to unfortunate circumstances and difficulty with the venue, The Dancers of the Mystic Rose have decided to cancel the July 21 benefit and throw all of our efforts into making the May 26th Shimmy for the Cure a huge success. A big Thank You to everyone who offered to dance and/or vend at the July 21 event. Please know that we will hold another Shimmy somewhere in the near future, and all of you will be contacted first with the new date and location for first dibs. We haven't given up on doing our Shimmy events, just postponing the next one for now.

We are so excited to announce that we have completely sold out all of the tickets for the Shimmy for the Cure in Elgin next week! We had 160 tickets to sell and we've gone slightly over that. Big thank yous to everyone who got the word out and promoted this event. Team Shimmy for the Cure is working hard at their training and fund raising and are close to reaching their goal. Thanks to the generosity and warm hearts of our belly dance community, we know we'll raise enough money with this event to put them over the top of their pledges!

Looking forward to another amazing night of belly dance and fun!!

I have been a part of 4 Shimmy for a Cure's. Each one of them has brought me to tears. This one was not an exception! Thank you Donna and Roses for an amazing evening and for allowing me to share it with you all. Even my Sugar gliders, who are chewing on some broccoli right now, say thanks!!!

What a fabulous night! I had such a wonderful time!!!! Thank you thank you thank you Donna Diva and the Roses for being the hostesses with the mostesses.

I said it last night and I'll say it again - Nilaja, it is a crime against the art of dance that you have not danced solo in years. .p:: You blew me away with your technique and adorable stage presence. Please promise me you'll be doing it more often now!

There were so many wonderful performances, and I loved seeing the collabarations between some of my favorite dancers. Noir, inspired by Rachel Brice's Dark Cabaret workshop, was brilliant; and Roses sub-group Melantha Athaar's Chemical Brothers performance was both creative and perfectly executed. The student troupes were all so cute and their obvious hard work and enjoyment of the dance really showed. Saving the best for last, Ms. Kimarhi closed the evening showing us all why she is the East Coast Classic Grand Champion.

And I won the 50/50 raffle, coming home $215 richer! Since I have spent the last month of my life on near daily trips to Home Depot while building my home studio, I can tell you that it will more than come in handy.

Thanks to everyone for such an incredible evening!!!
I know that I speak for all the Roses too when I tell each and everyone of you
involved that we are thrilled and forever thankful. This is something that we feel strongly about, and it amazes us every time that you all want to stand beside us for this great cause!

I am already proud of our team of walkers, and of each dancer that joined us last nite! I missed a few,f:: , but I'll catch you on the DVD----I do know that
I had the GREAT pleasure of finally seeing Nilaja out there, and that deserves
a special mention----you were outstanding girlfriend!!

I could go on gushing for hours about all the dancers---but I'll just tell you this: it was the first time that my students were exposed to the bd community, and they were INSPIRED! Now they really "get" so much of what I talk about. So I thank you all for that---what instructor wouldn't be overjoyed that her students had the chance to experience some of the best and most inspired dancers and perfomances around (especially with our own grand winner Kimahri as the primo example--woo hoo!)

Thank you all once again!!! We could not have done this without you---and the party wouldn't be same!!!

To all of the performers, friends, families, and especially all of my Roses, a huge thank you for making our 4th Shimmy for the Cure the easiest, and most rewarding one so far! You could feel the positive energy and love as soon as you walked in the room. Thank you to all of the performers for coming out and sharing your tremendous talent with us. I send out the invitations to dance and keep my fingers and toes crossed until I get a response from you -- and you've never let me down! Every dance is unique, your dancing is exceptional, your costumes are so beautiful! Each one of you is an inspiration. I can't thank you enough for helping us make this Shimmy for the Cure the best yet!

When we announced the total raised for Team Shimmy Walkers for the Cure, we had neglected to include the last of the ticket money collected at the door. The actual grand total raised for the May 26 Shimmy for the Cure in Elgin is $2,517!

Our local belly dance community is, without exception, the best in the world. I love each and every one of you and thank you for being in my little corner of the world. God bless you all.

WOW, that's great news Donna! Way to go Roses!!

I had a great time and there were so many impressive performances--LOVED the Noir, Melantha Athaar and Midnight Tribe numbers in particular! Galatea you were as adorable as always and that black costume was made for your little bad self. I only saw Nilaja in the stairway and she took my breath away...if I had actually seen girlfriend dance y'all might have had to call 911!

It truly was a wonderful night!!! I finally got to come back and dance after two years gone!

I had so much fun watching everyone - so MANY inspirations to choose from now, I don't even know where to start! :zillgallop: I am very honored that I was able to share the stage with such wonderful talent.

Donna, and all the Roses, thank you for all the time and energy you spend putting this together. I was previously amazed and awed at the generosity of everyone who is involved in this event;this time was no exception!
