Thread: 2010 Monthly Sphinx/Mango Haflas (IL)

2010 will bring our 7th year of Monthly Haflas at 'Sphinx', now called Mango.
I still just can't say 'Mango Hafla'.

The Sphinx Haflas are the 1st Saturday of each month, held at Mango in Niles.
They are designed for the Chicago-area BellyDance Community to network.
(out of town bellydancers are also Always welcome to perform)
The Haflas are made up of:
different instructors & their students, solos & groups,
veils, swords, Cabaret, Tribal, drummers, zillers,
1st time performer -to- pro, etc. . . .

The Haflas are at:
Mango! (formerly- Sphinx Cafe)- 8743 Milwaukee Ave in Niles
(se corner of 14 & 21) 847-967-0030

Admission is $15 and includes:
*Dinner Buffet
*BellyDance Show
*Program
*Open Dancing

They are from 6:30-10pm on the 1st Saturday of EVERY month.

I am limited in the number of performers for each Hafla,
so please feel free to reserve your performing spot for ANY of the 2010 dates.
(sometime students will reserve in advance for holiday break,
or instructors will reserve in advance for a date near the end of a choreography class & use the Sphinx Hafla as a 'final class project')

We have also started Theme Nights at the Haflas.
Themes have included: 80s, soundtrack, 50s, any song, & spooky
We will continue themes for 2010!
January will be the '70s'. (American 70s or Belly Dance 70s) ..g.:
February's theme will be 'Any Song'.
March's theme will be 'Country'. Wait! It Doesn't have to be country music-
You can dance to music from any country, or fuse with any country's dance,
or wear a country's color. Many options. This Hafla willbe educational!
And as April starts to bring back the flowers
we will cross over into the theme of "The Dark Side'.
Theme suggestions are always welcome!

For the February 2010, wasn't the theme going to be "Sweet"?

For the New Year Hafla last night, there was no buffet!
Everybody had their choice of dinner off a menu & a free drink, served at the tables.
Which meant we could take our left overs home! ..g.:
Next month we will be back to the buffet.

Speaking of next month, all the performer discounts have now been requested.
We can still add performers to the line-up,
but without a discount unless somebody else has to cancel.
As of right now, all other months still have performer discounts available!
February's theme is ANY SONG! (family friendly of course)

I have a family member going in for open heart surgery on Wednesday,
& I will not be on the computer much after Wednesday.

I agree, it was certainly a wonderful hafla! It was a very enjoyable evening with the "world" theme (we toured around the world with the different music). Fabulous!

April's Hafla was one of the best Sphinx Haflas ever! It was exciting to see so much creativity on the stage--especially those dancers who went outside their "comfort" zone to try something new. Breathtaking!
