Performance spots are still open for those interested in attending the Bellydancing UW club's workshop featuring Melina!

The 10th Annual UW Bellydancing Club Spring Workshop and Show will take place on Saturday, April 10th, 2010 in Madison, WI.

That’s right: the 10th Anniversary on April 10th, 2010!

Do not miss this opportunity to see one of the largest belly dance shows in the Midwest, with performers representing a wide variety of dance styles! This year's performance lineup includes:

Banaat Al Jazira
Ashar Dance Company
Fritha Coltrain
Blue Lotus Tribe
Arielle Juliette

And many more, all dancing on the beautiful University of Wisconsin Union Theater Stage.

This year’s headliner is Melina, co-founder of the belly dance company "Daughters of Rhea", as well as a member of the European family circus company "Cirque Passion."

Part 2nd-generation belly dance artist, part circus performer, Melina’s dance style is a striking blend of Greco-Turkish, American Cabaret, proto-Tribal, and bohemian gypsy fantasy fusion. Melina is the only belly dancer in the world to balance a sword on a dagger clutched in her jaws! Melina will teach a workshop the day of the show. Topic is TBA.

10 AM Melina Technique Workshop (with “Gypsy Fantasy” stylings)
12:30 Lunch (bring your own or visit delightful restaurants on State Street)
2 PM Choreography Workshop (putting together techniques used in morning workshop)
7:30 Spring Show at the Wisconsin Union Theater in the Memorial Union with amazing performances from Melina, Bellydancing UW and many other great bellydancers!

Show tickets last year were in the $12ish range. Because they have to be sold through the Union Theater box office, there's always a bit of a delay before they are on the Event list. Sorry for any inconvenience.

sadly, Blue Lotus Tribe had to pull out of this one. For my part, my folks will be visiting that weekend. Everyone else who'd planned on going has been presented with a conflict because of work or family as well. Sad.
