Certificate of Specialty Teacher for Oriental/Middle Eastern Dance and Egyptian Folklore.

I saw the "graduation show" in Egypt last week in which 4 people he'd been training performed his choreographies and received their certification. I was actually kind of disappointed. Contact me privately if you'd like details of why.

The graduation show is held at Prof. Khalil's studio, ISOC, in Cairo. My experience as a graduate last year was very positive. There were seven of us in all and we really enjoyed preparing for the show, as well as learning the various aspects to putting on a professional show: lighting, sound board, decoration, drapery, media set-up, etc.

Prof. Khalil went to a great deal of effort to put on this show at his studio. It was an intimate, informal affair attended by friends, family members, and guests, including the lovely Shareen el Safy, and we were all treated to a delicious multi-course meal in the garden afterwards. True Egyptian hospitality at its best!

Of the seven of us, three would be considered to be at a top/professional performance level (I'm not one of them), but the focus of this 160 hr certification program is not to create a professional performer, but a teacher with a sound knowledge of biomechanics, history, rhythms, musical instruments, music analysis, pedagogy specific to MED, and so on. The choreographies Prof. Khalil creates for this program are specific learning and teaching tools to greater comprehension and expression of Oriental, folklore, and pop dances.

Prof. Khalil has a great deal to offer dancers and teachers of all levels and it will be a marvelous opportunity to study with him in Ontario starting in 2011!

I had the opportunity to study with Dr. Hassan Khalil while in Cairo in 2008, and it was an inspirational connection I'll never forget. In teaching the choreography, he truly reaches to bring out the heart and spirit of the dancer. Some of my best dancing may have been with him in that workshop room. I was moved to tears.

I would like to comment also, because I am Prof Hassan Khalil's student right now, and I will go to Module 2 in November. I am very happy because I have the opportunity to dance with this person and just to listen what he says because it's really worth it, he is a legend, the point is not in copying dance technique and choreographies, it's in the information that this person gives you at his lectures (every day he gives you 2-3 hours lecture and after that you go to learn some of his choreographies), you wont find this info anywhere else and its really golden person and every word he tells you is worth to get up and go straitly to Cairo

It is an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for North American dancers to study with Prof. Khalil here in Canada. There are still a few places available in the weekend (TTCC 2) and week-long (TTCC 1) certification programs commencing in 2011 in Kingston, Ontario. The start date for the first weekend module is Friday, Feb. 11, and for the first week-long module, Monday, Feb. 14.

Also, space permitting, the modules can be booked as single intensive weekends or week-longs.
