Hi Bhuzzers!

Just to let you know that online registration will be starting shortly for our first larger-scale Theatrical Bellydance Conference of New York City, July 8-11, 2010--we are aiming for this Friday at noon, Eastern time, to open the registration floodgates!

My co-director Anasma and I, our conference manager Sophia Ma and our teachers and staff welcome you to come to New York this summer for an unforgettable experience filled with inspiration, cameraderie, and mucho excitement!

We believe this is the first conference of its kind, focusing on performance skills, theatrical approaches to bellydance, and staging as it applies to bellydancers of all genres. Our teachers represent a variety of bellydance styles, from hip-hop fusion to Tribal to Goth to Egyptian and more. We all share an interest in creating theatrical work and using innovative theater-inspired approaches to bringing dance to life.

Hi Everyone!

Yes ... I'm involved, and eager to meet all the dancers who can join us this summer! If anyone has any questions about -- how can I put this?--the New York City dance experience, I'm your point person here. Although we'll be putting out official info about everything you need to know, if there are any questions you have that aren't found elsewhere about being, dancing, getting around, or functioning in NYC, I'll be the person to field your questions.

Hey Bhuzzers! We are adding a promotion to our online registration (which begins today April 16 at 12pm Eastern Time) to give a $50 discount off the early conference rate to the first 20 registrants! That and you'll secure an open stage slot if you want to perform.

So there is this rumor ... it's just a rumor, but it's picking up speed ....

There MAY be a walking/shopping trip to the major dance-oriented retail outlets in NYC sometime before or after the conference. Trim stores, fabric district, major dance retailers, etc. Definitely drool-worthy.

There is a chance that I'll be involved with coordinating or co-leading said journey.

I soo wish to go on this, but I think I am not on that skill level, I am a bit advanced beginner, those workshops are probably for the pros. Maybe next year.

Hey there Coral Sugar! The workshops are not "just for the pros". In fact, because this is not a dance-technique-focused conference, I would say dancers of *any* skill level would fit in quite well. All you need is a strong interest and willingness to jump in and learn. We are expecting a range of levels as well as styles at the conference, and so far in the registrations there's been a lot of geographic variety too--people from across the world. We're excited!

I just registered and want to know if there will be an ISO-roommate thread set up here or on FB for those of us traveling to the conference. I'm happy to start one myself, but I didn't want to do that if there's going to be a central location for that info.

I am really looking forward to this! Like CoralSugar, I'm still a beginner (been belly dancing almost five years, three seriously) and I'm eager to learn more about the emotional/interpretive aspects of performing.

No, not at all! Just an interest in exploring different approaches to performance skills in the dance. We started this conference because we wanted to give bellydancers more tools that could help them in enhancing their performances--from the performance skills perspective, not just from the dance technique end. The focus is educational, and also inspirational, to offer workshops in topics like stage presence, developing comfort with oneself as a dancer/performer, using tools like imagery, character, story and choreographic concepts to help keep your creative energy flowing, staging skills and more....check out our cool workshop topics at Theatrical Bellydance Conference 2010 | New York City to get the full lineup! Through the conference, we also expect to bring together people who are interested in presenting bellydance theatrically and to provide great entertainment for the audiences at our shows! But you don't already have to be doing theatrical work to feel a part of things, and the skills we are teaching are not only for theater work--they can apply to a variety of performance settings and even to inspiring us while in dance class.

The Vending Room at the New York Theatrical Bellydance Conference

The room will be open from 9am till 6pm but the vendors do need time to set up and break down so prime shopping time will be more like 10am till 5pm. Feel free to stop by anytime though, the vending room will be a nice cool place to hang out.

Finally home again after one fantasic week at the teatrical bellydance congress in New york . Cant tell you in words how greatful I am that a join this event.. Many thanks to Ranya and Anasma and everyone of the lovely hard working girls who made this event so fantastic. Great people and a fantastic shows and love all the time.
