    Moving to La Crescenta, CA

    Hello All:

I am moving to the La Crescenta/Glendale, CA area in January and would like to continue my Egyptian/Cabaret training. Anyone out there have any recommendations for instructors in that area? Any leads would help - THANKS!

    you're in luck!
Tamra-henna teaches at Glendale Community College.
Zahra and Roxxanne teach in Atwater Village, which is right next door to Glendale.
Jillina's studio is in Universal City, which is 10 minutes from Glendale, so if she's in town...

I moved from there just 1 1/2 years ago. You have a wealth of opportunity there! I actually miss that. ,f::

Right up on Foothill Blvd. and Rosemont is a dance studio where the Flowers of the Desert hold rehearsals. Lori is the director of Flowers. Kamala teaches there too. Flowers is where such greats at Jillina, Princess Farhana, and many others started.

Also, in Glendale is Leela, at Brand Library. Thea is at McGroarty Art Center in Tujunga. check out www.myspace.com/thearaqs Thea is a very dear friend of mine and she and I were duet partners.
Princess Farhana was my mentor, but she is currently not teaching because she is touring so much.

Another great option is Mezmera in Silver Lake.
    So, why on earth are you moving to the small community of La Crescenta?????,r:;

If you want Egyptian training then you want Tamra-henna or Zahra Zuhair. Or, you can go to Pasadena for Aubre.

The only problem with the Glendale Community College classes is that they are by session and only have sign up at specific times. It's worth the wait & effort though.

I've changed bellydancela.com but the class schedule is still linked on the home page of the blog.

Also, note that Leila Cairo will be teaching out La Crescenta-ish at the end of October - two workshops. And, Diana Tarkan from Cairo will do workshops in November at Zahra's studio. http://www.dancegardenla.com

Here's a list of teachers in the Valley, where you're moving

    http://www.laraqs.com/teachers_valley.html

I'd second (third? forth?) Zahra Zuhair for classical musicality, and Jenna if you need to focus on posture (also at DanceGarden).

Do you guys know if Tamra-henna will be teaching a new session come January?

i'm sure she will. she's going to be teaching a history of MED class soon. maybe not next semester, but she's already gone through at least the first round of getting her syllabus approved.

Thank you all for your suggestions - I just spent two hours on the net running down your leads and getting some great information. I will be traveling out there for the first two weeks in October - I hope I can drop in on some of these classes while I'm there. I teach beginner/intermediate classes here in Mississippi, but it's time to be a student again for a change and learn something new. Thank you all again for your help! And to answer your question - I'm moving to California to be closer to my husband's family.

If you're going to be here the first two weeks in October you might want to consider some of the many workshops on the weekend of Oct 6 & 7 - Jillina, Ava Fleming, BellyQueen of NY and more! :)

And there's a show that Sunday night featuring Aubre, Jenna, and lots of other acts (fusion and burlesque included, I must warn you). Happy moving! :)
