Question Looking for advanced teachers in Binghamton/Ithaca/Syracuse NY

I currently live in the Binghamton, NY area, and I'm looking for a teacher. I am willing to travel within a reasonable distance for the right one!

I used to study in Western Pennsylvania with Chris Cramer (Sunflower Yoga - Indiana, PA), who was amazing. I have found other teachers over the years, but I tend to get bored very quickly if I'm not challenged. I have yet to find another teacher anywhere nearby with that kind of attention to detail, experience, and knowledge of style/pattern/technique/culture.

I was at Pennsic last week (PENNSIC WAR.ORG), and was fortunate enough to take an advanced class with Zhaleh Fereshteh from Florida (Zhaleh Fereshteh: Middle-Eastern Dancer, Shire of Castlemere ~ Alethea bint Fahd ibn Acktar, called Elitha). Her class was exciting, challenging, and exactly what I am looking for! She really inspired me to try to seek out other teachers and dance troupes locally.

I am open to any suggestions and/or ideas. I am thinking that June (Moonlight Dancer) in Ithaca would probably be a great instructor to try, but I haven’t heard any reviews yet. I am most familiar with Egyptian belly dance, but would be willing to try other styles.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post!

    Sarah

I know June as a fellow student from Artemis Mourat's advanced Turkish intensives, but not as a teacher. She has studied Turkish style for many years, both domestically and abroad. Having spent some time with her, I can certainly say that she is a really nice, kind and fun person. I like her a lot, and I would definitely check her out.

I attended a Delilah workshop in Ithaca that June & Zajal sponsored. Same as above post, I do not have experience with her as a teacher, but she seems a lovely, fun person, and I enjoyed her dance performance. I agree - check her out!

You just missed Donia! She Moved to LA in the beginning of the month, I only took a few classes from her but she was an amazing Egyptian style Dancer.

I believe Hannah (my teacher) will be teaching again starting in the fall, she does an intermediate/advanced class that I love, she is really good at teaching different levels in the same class. I'm not sure what her topics will be but in the past we have done a lot of zilling, balance, classic songs ect. She teaches in Cicero at Drivers Villiage

I took classes with June Seaney for about 9 months in 2001. She is a good teacher and very knowledgeable in terms of culture. During my time there we worked on Turkish Romani and Egyptian folkloric dances. I do see alot of Artemis in her. I wished I'd had more time to soak up some more of her Turkish oriental but I wasn't there very long.

My only negative is she did not seem to be one for providing alot of critique, but she does have alot to offer otherwise as a teacher.
