Hello! Just wanted to let folks know that there has been a block of rooms set aside at the Best Western University Inn that is just down the street from the workshop.
The cost is $65.00 per night for a double room up to 4 people.

If you had previously tried to register for this online, the price was listed incorrectly. The correct price for this is $45.00 as is stated on the flyer. The correction has been made with the college and the cost will be $45.00 no matter how you register.

If anyone is having issues with the registration please let me know!

Jawhara is fabulous! One of the most knowledgable dancers in our area! Any workshops of hers are not to miss!

This is her bio from the Alexandra King show in Milwaukee:

Jawhara is a Chicago area educator, researcher, performer, and Artistic Director of Anwaar El Sharq, a dance company offering entertainment and education, with dances of the Middle East and North Africa. Jawhara is a member of the faculty at Elmhurst College in Illinois, and teaches "Middle Eastern Dance Through History to Today," a course with both studio and classroom components.

She is *insanely* knowledgeable about MED, and was one of the judges for the Midwest Belly Dance Competition. She's a fabulous dancer to boot, especially when she goes folkloric on your ass. Anwaar El Sharq did a Khaleegy dance at the Last Shimmy for the Cure in Elgin that was amazingly joyful and spirited.

i don't remember her from the MBDC but I think she performed at Erika Ochoa's last event- "Sharia Muhammad Ali." Didn't she do the Ibrahim Farrah choreography? If so she was great and I look forward to her workshop.

She is a wonderful dancer. I believed she performed at the Sphinx Hafla this month.

Jawhara was judge #3, I believe. She didn't perform at MBDC. And I believe she did perform at Erika's event. It would not surprise me if she did one of Ibrahim Farrah's choreos - she and I are both students of IF having taken workshops with him back in the "early days."

She's fantastic, extremely knowledgeable, wonderful dancer, and one of the funniest ladies I've ever had the pleasure of dancing with. ..l;, And a killer ziller!!

If I could figure out how to get the video of their Khaleegy dance from the benefit off my 8mm and onto my computer, I'd put it up here! Alas, I'm horribly ignorant of such things. ..cr.: But I can confirm it was wonderful!

Donna - I could get it onto YouTube from the DVD. I'm reluctant to post other dancer's performances there without their permission, though. I would take your word for it if you said the Anwaar El Sharq ladies wouldn't mind, so let me know.

Wow - you are so lucky to have had *her* as your first teacher! I wish we could all start off with such knowledgable instructors right off the bat.

No, Maleeha did the Bobby choreo. Jawhara did the solo cane and introduced Samara.

She is fab! I wonder if we can get her to do a Khaleegy workshop at the NRDC. Off to email Na'ama.

Hey G! Of course I'd ask permission from the Sharqs themselves before putting anything up on YouTube or Bhuz! .p:: And now that I'm thinking about it - I do have it on DVD (somewhere). Amirah made DVDs for the performers. You were in the benefit, did you get a copy of the DVD?

Babs -- would you want to ask Jawhara if she would like a little bit of the performance put here on Bhuz to help promote your workshop and the lovely lady herself! (Those other two gals she hangs with aren't so bad either. )

I sure did! You or Babs just give me the nod, and I'm your girl to get it up online.

Sure wish I lived closer. I took a Khaleeji class at Oasis Dance Camp and really enjoyed it.

The link from the website to register will be working as of Jan 3rd. (Currently if you click on it, you only see Fall 2007 classes.)

Oh poo. I would love to take this workshop. Jawahara is such an inspiring person and I wish I could be there but I have to work. :-( Oh well. Sumaya, keep us posted if you get her for a worshop at NRDC.
