Hi everyone - I'm posting on behalf of a student who works for an event planning organization. They want to hire a tanoura dancer for an event in Vegas. Are there any in the area? My student's name is Brittany and her emails are:

Hi Leela,
Brittany contacted me and several other dancers in Vegas, we don't have any Tanoura dances here, or on the west coast from my research, Mohamed is the only one in the US that I know of, I wish the male dancers would do more of the men's folklore dances, there is a call for it every so often.

I believe she already called me. I don't know any in Las Vegas at all (or I'd put them in my show). I recommended she try to find them in Los Angeles.

Thanks for all your help, everyone! Sorry it took me so long to reply - I just discovered that Bhuz messages are suddenly all going into my Spam folder! I have to fix this!

I gave her Mohamed's contact info first. The Egyptian company sponsoring this event (or something - I'm not quite clear on what their role is) didn't want to pay to fly in a dancer from NY or SF, and they apparently were completely horrified when she suggested a bellydancer. Actually, she had suggested that first, since Vegas is full of great dancers (some of whom are right here ). They were completely horrified by the suggestion, and told her that bellydance "isn't Egyptian". Uh, whatever.

So, I think in the end they went with some other sort of performer. But thanks so much for your help. Yes, that request was real!
