Thread: Moving to Melbourne FL!!

Who is dancing/ teaching and Where?! I am moving there as a graduate student and will need my weekly belly dance class, so I can keep from going crazy! (advanced classes preferred) I am also interested in starting classes, but don't want to step on anyone's toes/ business!! Let me know what you know!

I live in Volusia County (north of Brevard), but I've still heard of this group, so I'd try contacting them first: American Belly Dance Club

Orlando has a pretty good scene, too. One major cabaret studio, Orlando Bellydance, and several tribal groups, too, including Florida Tribal, Tribal Muses, and another group called A Magi Temple. (Plus dozens, I'm sure, of solo teachers at local gyms and stuff.) Stellar Advantage is a local event host that sets up workshops/conventions with national talent. They have a website with their upcoming events. There are several restaurants with dancers, the first few that come to mind are Ali Baba's, Cafe Tu Tu Tango, and Marrakesh in Epcot.

Keep an eye on the Miami scene as well. They have really big events there every year, plus several famous dancers are based in studios there.

If you're on Facebook and you start friending the local organizers, you'll find almost everyone is linked and you can learn about more classes and events quickly that way.

I'm in Rockledge on occasion, and drive to Melbourne to take classes with Mindy:

There are a few different teachers and classes throughout the area, but they all work really closely together in the community. :)

I would also reccommend that you eat at the Lebanese restaurant across the street from FIT (sorry the name escapes me right now). There is a belly dancer there every Friday night. She'll perform 3 sets starting at 6:30pm. He only hires girls from Orlando though.

I think the restaurant you're referring to is Skewers? They and Aroma's (another great Lebanese restaurant in Melbourne) have a contract with Orlando Bellydance so we usually rotate around dancing there, except Skewer's house dancer is my friend Laila (she also does our scheduling for Aroma's).

everyone above has pretty much answered it all, if you have any other questions feel free to PM or e-mail me. I have been a part of Orlando Bellydance since 2007 so of course I'm biased when I say I recommend them, but I can also give you the inside scoop on other events in the area (my friend Holly teaches in Sanford out of her home studio, and Andrea of Stellar Advantage puts on great workshop events). Carrara Nour also just moved to Melbourne so you can find her if you have any questions (google for her website). Carrara, here! I live in Merritt Island, not far from Melbourne. Just moved here from Connecticut about 4 months ago. There are pros and cons to this area. (Pros = breathtakingly beautiful beaches, laid-back local culture, and a nice breeze that makes summers a bit more tolerable. Cons = BORING. I drive to Orlando for pretty much all my fun and excitement.)

Ok, I have read your post. Belly dance is very good that involves the technical exercises and rigorous movement that are challenging and enjoyable at the same instance. Jewell Belly dance studio is the best school in Melbourne. If you want to make a career in belly dance then I think this studio is better option for you.

Thanks for reporting this user, Suzana. For some reason, this spammer seems to have copied info off the website of my studio, Jewel Bellydance, and is using it for nefarious purposes. For the record, I and my school have nothing to do with this spammer!

Melbourne is nice place. I have been there for few months. It was a good experience.
