It's like me starting to call you Ruth Ann. That's about how much sense it makes as well.

    I know.

they're calling it "Mango" in the hopes that there will be lots and lots of cleavage!

(Isn't there an Arabic song that is about "Mangos"...but its really about boobs? Kind of like "El Enab"...its about "grapes"...but yeah...its really about something else...lol)

Mango is just the Sphinx having an identity crisis. ..c:: It's supposed to be going "islands" -- but you can't tell which just by looking at the new black-light friendly walls faux painted to give one the impression of sitting on a lanai or veranda or someplace overlooking, um, maybe the ocean? The faux colonial lanterns don't give off enough light to make it clear, and the faux vines wrapped around the faux arches are generic vines. Maybe there will be more foliage this month . . . or maybe boats on the, um, ocean, or a faux skyline of Miami. Maybe . . .

But the pyramids and the Sphinx are definitely gone. ..cr.:

Wonder what they'll do about the {gasp} food!! Maybe there will be MANGOS for dessert?? Maybe . . .

Nawww, that's not right. If they were thinking of cleavage they would have called it "Casabas" !! Or "Watermelons" !! Mangos are too small.

If I had my druthers, they would have called it "Bananas" -- as long as we're talking body parts, that is.

sounds a tad cheesy. I could handle mangoes( quite sure there is actually supposed to be that e there) for dessert, unless they make us cut and depit them. very messy. Is one of my fave fruits. Just won't buy the at jewel food stores, they go rotten in a day.

    Hello all,

I am really excited to come see everyone dancing at the Hafla tomorrow night, and I have a quick silly question. Does the restaurant serve alcohol? If not, are you allowed to bring your own wine? Can't find any info on this, and the restaurant is not answering the phone.

    Thanks!

They have a full bar. Wine is $5 a glass, but it's a pretty small pour IMO.

And now I have a question of my own - does anyone know if there's a reduced cost for kids? I'm bringing my 10 year old, and I'm hoping to not have to pay the full $20 for he since she's not likely to eat much.

Ask Eva at the door. It's quite possible that she will charge less for her - especially since they'll know you're a regular hafla-goer. Definitely doesn't hurt to ask. I know Mara from my troupe regularly brings her kids (tonight, too) and she's never mentioned she had to pay full price for them -- and she's got 3! Tonight she's only bringing Desdemona.

We had a great time at the hafla! My cousin is dying to start bellydancing and is searching for a teacher near Andersonville. I had so much fun, too. The dancers were all fabulous, and it was really fun joining in for the open dancing. We're already talking about planning another trip to chicago later this year and will plan around attending this hafla! Thanks to everyone for being so very welcoming!

Is there a thread that has pictures? Because everyone looked just gawjus! I loved the way Zayna and Donna were rooting for everybody in the DJ booth too! And Donna, I am a horrible kidder - I was just bustin' your chops about the music length for the Shimmy benefit

I talked to your cousin a little bit in the ladies room, and she was such a sweetie. We'd love to welcome her into the fold, for sure.
