Classes iin or near Ithaca NY?

    Hello!

One of my students is going to be moving to Ithaca very soon (like the next few weeks) and would like to continue taking dance classes. She is still a beginner dancer with one 8 week course under her jingly belt! ...l;,

Anyone out there in Ithaca or nearby in Syracuse?

    Thanks!
    Babs

    Hi, Babs!

In Ithaca, there's June: June Seaney

Also, bhuzzer KatinaBD recently moved there and I believe was intending to teach. Haven't seen her around here lately, though.

Syracuse has a lot of tribal/fusion stuff. Not so much Oriental. What style does your student prefer?

At the very least, she should join the Syracuse Area Bellydance Association:
SABA - Syracuse Area Bellydancers Association

Good point, and even if she doesn't want to make that drive on a regular basis, she might want to get on their mailing list. I understand they're bringing in some big names for workshops next year--Suzanna Del Vecchio and Jim Boz. Definitely worth the drive.

Cornell Univ. right in Ithaca has a troupe, Teszia--I'm not sure if they have public class offerings, but it could be worth a look, and they might know who else is in the area

    Reviving this...

I'm considering moving to Ithaca if I decide to go to Cornell for their astrophysics phd program.

I've found a couple dancers on google, but just curious if there are any bhuzzers in that area?

there's more Oriental coming up now in Syr, the past few years a lot of teachers have had changes in their lives so there's been a bit of a shift, plus some of us who are new to teaching.
Donia just moved away, but her troupe/ class schedule has been passed on to Sue's capable hands. Sparklyhips Bellydance they are located in Binghamton and Cortland.

    BellEVents - Home
    home
    Bellydance with Alecia - Home
    ~Lauren's Bellydance~ - Welcome

none of us are listed on SABA, so i guess we're a little harder to find ^_^

OT but yeah, why is that? From the SABA listings, it seems there are no teachers left in Syracuse!

Now now, let's be nice. All of these volunteer run dance orgs need to change and grow as time passes and leadership is thrust upon others, as was the case with my local org, which now is somewhat defunct.

I've met the SABA people past, and think Syracuse actually has a pretty strong community, with a lot of creativity. Though, I haven't been there for about a year or so!

Glindella is being very classy about it. just in her defense.
it's not really a public issue anyway though, just a choice some of us have made with our marketing. as Lord Byron says: "On with the dance!" ^_~

There is also a class on Tuesday nights at 7:30pm at the Community School of Music and Arts ( Community School of Music and Arts in Ithaca, New York )taught by Zajal (Katharyn Howd Machan). Afterwards Mirage (another local belly dance troupe) practices. :D
