Thread: Moving to New York for the next 2 months...any tips, sugestions?

Hi dancers,

I am moving to New York for the next 2 months.
I will be living around the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood.


Do you know of any good venues with good dancers and live bands? I already got some great tips from Najla but the more the better. I want to write about Belly Dance in New York for my blog and any information would be helpful.

Already have some contacts for gigs and I will be taking some private from Nourhan and also teaching private class.

Layfette grill by canal street has scott wilson, efendi and guest dancers every sunday or so

and there are tons of other places im sure other ppl will chime in

I was in NYC for 3 week and I am going back Saturday. I will be on W 42nd St.
I would LOVE to meet with some dancers.

I am so excited!!!

I believe Luna of Cairo (she has the translation service on Bhuz home) will be there this weekend teaching a workshop, and both Zahra Zuhair and Aleya will be doing workshops in NYC the following weekend.

Zahra, Aleya, Farrah Talei and I will all be dancing at Lafayette Grill next Friday night...it would be fun to see you if you can come check out the venue! :)

Nice! I am going to be in NY this Sunday, I'll be performing at Je Bon in St. Mark's place along with some other dancers, including Mark Balahadia. The show starts at 7:30pm. I'm really excited because I love the food at Je Bon (sushi! yummmm)! I don't get to go there enough, Bellyqueen's events there are always on Wednesday and I can't go in the middle of the week like that.

Aside from that there are those regular shows Calista mentioned. There is a lot going on in the city always, I wish I lived there or could go more often! I will also be going there on a Saturday, either next week or the week after, to take Jehan's class and get shop at the fabric district for materials to continue my current costume project. So if you want to meet up let me know :)

Hope Je'bon was good! I'll be debuting a theatrical solo this Wednesday in Brooklyn (details: Najla Belly Dance NYC - Performance Calendar), and I'm super-excited to be part of the lineup of Pandemonium III on Dec. 15 (with a 12-piece orchestra!!)...maybe see you there

I underestimated the massiveness of NYC and ended up missing the show last night
But I will look at your web site for details of your shows and will try to make it

I'm coming to NYC in mid January. I'll be both teaching and performing.

Ranya Renée is organizing the workshops and I'll be in Je Bon on 25th Jan.

Any way I'll be in NYC for some time, so it would be great to meet other Bhuzers!
