I'm on the wrong coast.I love Cirque du Soliel. It would be kind of cool to have a bellydancer in a Cirque performance.

All of the auditions I know of for Cirque..you need to get past the "regular dance" audition before you get to show your specialty. This sounds like the same...so if your a ballet/jazz dancer too...this may work for you! Have fun..whoever gets to go!

Re: Cirque Du Soleil, Open Casting Call for Dancers
Yes. When I auditioned for them, there was a three-hour ballet class first, which everyone was required to take. Jump, and jump, and jump, and your calves are screaming, and jump some more. Even if you are a variety act, you have to do this. It seems to me that they are looking for people who can pick up skills quickly and without complaint as well. So even if you haven't got the ballet/jazz/whatever, it would behoove the auditioning dancer to be cheerful and non-whiny about how it's not in their skillset. In other words, suck it up. There were a few people complaining about the ballet, and none of them made the final cut, even the ones who moved well. The variety acts who tried out on the audition I attended were very diverse in specialty, and VERY good on the whole. Intimidatingly good, lol! One other thing, is that although they seemed to like duos and trios, if one of the dancers was weak, they would cut the weaker partner. Or alternatively, they might take both dancers and split them up. Neena and Veena told me that Cirque made them an offer, but wanted to send them on different locations to separate shows. So if you audition as part of a duo, be aware that might be an issue.

When I auditioned for them, they didn't have the ethnic dancers do the ballet portion, they said we are not expected to do ballet, just our specialty. It was myself, breakdancers and an Indian dancer. They went with the Indian dancer, she was great!

Re: Cirque Du Soleil, Open Casting Call for Dancers
Wow that was a small audition then....what show did the Indian dancer end up in?
The common audition is with ballet and other dance combinations from everyone else that I know who has auditioned or is now working with them. It was really rare that you got to dance for them your specialty...most people don't get that far. That is a good thing..
Are you going again in January?Last edited by TanyaLV; 12-18-2007 at 02:45 PM.

Almost all the performers in the Cirque shows look like they've had ballet training. There's just a certain way their bodies move kinetically that scream "EXTENDED DANCE TRAINING!" They're all so graceful and poised and deliberate with their movements. It's part of the "Cirque aesthetic."

Re: Cirque Du Soleil, Open Casting Call for Dancers
*sigh*
I'd really love to audition. BUT
1. I love my job right now, and don't want to leave.
2. Cirque isn't "bigger girl friendly" and I'm much bigger than several of their performers PUT TOGETHER.
plus, I have no training in anything besides Belly Dance.

Re: Cirque Du Soleil, Open Casting Call for Dancers
Their theory is that if they choose you, they will teach you the ballet they want you to know, so they aren't interested in your ballet skills if you are an ethnic dancer, they will take care of any other training.
My brother in law works for Cirque and my sister does make up for Le Reve at the Wynn, and they take dancers and turn them into divers or what ever they need. As long as you have talent, they can work with it, and train you to do other jobs besides your personal specialty.

Re: Cirque Du Soleil, Open Casting Call for Dancers
Yeah I understand how Cirque works too...but teaching someone the "ballet they need to know" would hardly be successful when that takes years to learn....at least to dance well... I do know they keep the acts they like after they see your audition... And yes....the talented ones can be "molded" but I would like to know which acts haven't any other training at all...I don't know any. My husband is now working direct for Cirque too...with many projects and the up-coming new Criss Angel Cirque show opening in the summer of 08..
I do hope a fabulous belly dancer finds her way to the stage it would be great to see...good luck ladies..break a leg!!!!
