Thread: Reality show casting burly artists, vaudeville, belly dance in Philly (PA/NJ/VA/NY)

I got this casting call from a few burly contacts since it mentions belly dancers. I'm not sure I could be on a reality show (being on camera is probably my version of hell), but thought I would pass on.

Also, I don't feel like touching the whole "belly dance lumped in with burly and side show" aspect of this announcement - mainly cause I'm hungry and am posting this quick before I run out for lunch!

Call for Side Show and Burlesque Artists

Open casting call auditions for burlesque dancers.

Neo-classical burlesque dancers to be cast for television series pilot. Auditions will be held on Febuary 24th at the North Star in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. We are looking for attractive, creative burlesque performers who can capture an audience's attention both on and off the stage.

-All performers will be given a time slot in advance but will be required to arrive early at a predetermined time for sign in. Any performer who misses sign in will forfeit their slot.
-All performers will be allowed one song/routine to perform, no longer than three minutes. Music must be provided by performer on CD format at sign in time.
-Space at the North Star is limited, all performers will be expected to arrive with hair and makeup done. However space for props and costume change will be provided.
-No more than two girls per routine.
-Audition performed in front of a live audience and film crews.
-Camera crews will be filming performances and will be present both in the audience and back stage, However, this is NOT an "American Idol" style project. Auditions are purely for future possible call backs.
-Audition slots are pre-registered by email, first come first served and are limited. Please provide a brief bio and contact information

Sideshow performers, neo-vaudeville and strange, eclectic stage performers to be cast for television series pilot. Auditions will be held at February 24th at the North Star in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. We are looking for sword swallowers, human pin cushions as well as all other sideshow style performers, We are also looking for sword dancers, belly dancers and strange lounge acts who can capture an audience's attention both on and off the stage.
-All performers will be given a time slot in advance but will be required to arrive early at a predetermined time for sign in. Any performer who misses sign in will forfeit their slot.
-All performers will be allowed one routine to perform, no longer than five minutes. If music is part of the routine, then a CD must be presented at sign in time.
-Space at the Northstar is limited, all performers will be expected to arrive with hair and makeup done. However space for props and costume change will be provided.
-No more than two performers on stag per routine.
-All performers must be 21 with proof of age.
-Audition performed in front of a live audience and film crews.

If elevating oriental dance is anyone's goal, I don't see the advantage of auditioning for a show that has finding "sideshow" acts and "strange lounge acts who can capture an audience's attention both on and off the stage" as its mission. Sword swallowers! Human pin cushions! Are they looking for a bearded lady, too? Or, maybe a person with gills? Sounds like they are looking to create what used to be termed a "freak show." I wouldn't touch anything like this with a ten foot pole.
