    Anyone in Omaha NE?

I just got an e-mail from someone who *says* they're looking for a dancer for a wedding this coming weekend (2/15-16) because the dancer they had hired is, apparently not working out.

It doesn't look like a typical scam e-mail, but I'd approach it cautiously. They gave me a contact phone number.

If anyone is interested, I'll e-mail you details.

I was contacted too, actually as soon as they pay the deposit my dance company and I will be doing the wedding, so the deposit will determine if it's legit!

I just spoke to her and she is very nice, it's a Kurdish wedding, so she decided to bring me and a few of the girls from my dance company, so we would have 1/2 the show choreography, stage style, then the 2nd half with getting her family involved, I'm looking forward to it! I've never been to Nebraska!!

Cool! I wonder who they were having problems with. I know a couple of decent dancers in the Lincoln / Omaha area. While I am glad that you have gotten the gig, it's too bad for hte community in the area that soemone wasn't able to work this out.

She said the dancers in the area were mostly tribal and since they are Arabic they wanted something more authentic, and she said the girls didn't have the look that she wanted, glamour. I don't know, I was surprised to that they would fly in dancers from another area, I don't know any dancers in Nebraska, so I can't say if she is right or not.

She is kinda right. Most of the dancers in the area have switched to tribal or are heavily old skool Turkish. I can see where the glam issue would come up. When I was in Lincoln at my dad's I did notice that there was a real solid feeling that they didn't want to get too 'showgirl-esque' for fear of scaring the natives. At one hafla which I danced at in full Lebanese glory, the MC felt the need to say, this is NOT something you'll see around here.

Have fun. Maybe this will be the wake up call the dancers in the area need.

Weird. There are some good dancers in Lincoln and Omaha that are capable of the glam. There are the Athenian Dancers in Lincoln, and Della in Omaha. But it's true there's a lot of tribal influence in the area, and I can understand why the people doing the hiring for a Kurdish wedding would want something closer to Arabic or Turkish style.

Just to let you know the Wedding was sooooo much fun, we did a show for the rehearsal dinner in this awesome yoga studio, 2 stories, beautiful, and the wedding was in a 3 story artist studio with museum rooms and working artists sculpting and blowing glass during the reception, it was a great experience, I've never seen such a relaxed wedding party, everything was just smooth!! I have a new respect for NE!!!
