Save the date! The 2nd Annual Midwest Bellydance Challenge will be held in Elmhurst, IL on Saturday August 23rd, 2008! Expanded categories this year to include student soloists, troupes, tribal, and alternative/fusion.

Hmm...depending on the category I might consider it! I definitly can't compete with the real pros you guys have in Chicago, but if there's an "intermediate" category for people who have less than a few years of performing experience I will be seriously considering.

I've been wanting to enter a comp for a little while for the sole purpose of getting worthwhile critique

O'Hare International is the closest -- but depending on airfares and choice of airline, you might get a better deal coming into Midway Airport. It's not that much further.

$500 cash will be awarded to the winner of the pro category. The amount of the dance scholarship for the student winner is still TBA.

Thinking about it....hmmm.....

I can wait until more info is released but was wondering if the student soloist category will accept people who have earned money from their dancing. I've been doing occasional gigs for less than a year, but sometimes the rules don't want people to have earned money from performance, as it technically places them in the category of "professional"

I think it sounds great. I'd love to take the troupe! Our best category would be fusion, though. Not sure if they'll have group fusion. Sounds like a cool field trip!

Sounds like fun! A bit more experience under my belt, and I'll give it a try! Maybe next year.....

Argh! Not you/your event. My day job. That will likely be the weekend going into the start of classes at our university. Never a good weekend for me for dance events (even one only 45 minutes to an hour away from me). Just total insanity. sigh I'm sure everyone that *can* go will have a fantastic time. Enjoy!
