Hiya!
I'll take the assuit (two smaller pieces -- not the full shawl #10), a roman scarf #39, and my previous list.
Would you accept $40 for the two smaller assuit pieces, so that someone else can have the shawl at $60? Does that seem fair?
I sent you a PM for payment stuff... I'm at 15116 and my email is lilgreendragyn @ gmail DOt com
Thanks!!

Re: Assuit, Saris, Atira's Patterns, Roman Scarves, Hip Scarves, Afghani pieces, Red Bedlah
I study antique tribal jewelry and i think you should know the two small shawls are worth 200- 400 each and the long one probably only 150. It would make more sense if they were each at least 100 each. Also the long one is worth less than the two so it should cost less.
If I were you I would put these as a lot on etsy or ebay and get the 600 dollars you deserve. do not let people scam you. Lets all practice honorable business with one another and not take advantage of one another ladies. it is not right.
knowingly paying you 20 dollars for an item worth 300 is wrong
letting someone pay more for something worth less is wrong as well
but you can all do what you like.
I do not mean to be dramatic, but I am an expert on assuit and morally had to tell you.
I think you should get what you deserve and that in not screwed over.
I believe that beautiful pieces like the assuit should be respected and it is insulting to the orignal artisan that made those probably in the 1920's to pay 20 dollars for them.
I hope you are all more informed know and can make clear decisions.

Odd, not sure who you feel was scammed? Shems set her price, so clearly she doesn't feel scammed, she is very educated (I know her personally) and just wanted to clean house. I can't imagine Bernie feels scammed, she just made an offer. And if they were worth 200-400, why didn't you "morally" offer her that instead of $100.00? Not sure why the problem is here. I am not seeing that anyone is unhappy, except maybe you because you unfortunately missed out on the purchase.

If that makes you sleep at night. I offered what I could- 100 for each. She said to the highest bidder. If she said yes I would be lucky- if no it would be okay. I own plenty of additional assuit not in cream though. I am just informing her and you so that you all know in case you do not. SHe should make a decision that feel good for her. she has quite a collection and could get half a thousand dollars for it if put on etsy or ebay. it was her most valuable listing and with historical merit. Wanted to make sure you all knew she is being taken advantage of. If I were you I would honor her and the peice and giver her 100 or more for each piece.

Nope..... Shems was asking $100.00 for all 3, or best offer :) Again, I know her.... she ain't no pushover.
I see that you are new to Bhuz so you might not understand what listings are about. Many times when we sell here, we list at reasonable prices because we want to sell things for other things ( or to clean house). There are many occasions when I have listed a great deal just to move it. Other times we hold to higher prices because we are not too concerned about moving it fast. We are a community here and noone is out to hurt anyone.
All the best,

Re: Assuit, Saris, Atira's Patterns, Roman Scarves, Hip Scarves, Afghani pieces, Red Bedlah
I am new to this site yes. I do not know you and do not assume anything about you. But I do know your friend in you "community" could get up to 600 dollars for her pieces with minimal effort. When my friends offer something nice to me for too little i generally give them what they deserve because i care about them.
You would be denying her of quite some money. I do not assume she is a push over- in fact i know she has good taste by her assuit.
But, like you who did not know that most antique assuit is made of silver stamping- that may or may not tarnish to gold depending on age and weather they did use an alloy, this is primarily a cabaret site and clearly assuit knowledge is less in this forum than it would be in a tribal forum where is is more popular for the costume. I wanted to make sure you had the option of upping your offer. Since my offer was firm and 100 for each- the best offer- refer to quote- than perhaps the third piece should go to me- though . At this point it is more a questions of values than it is of shopping.
I hope that you enjoy your antique assuit, made with silver from circa 1920-40. value 200- 400- purchased at the gift price of 20- 60 dollars. enjoy it and its beauty. i hope that this forum will cary with you and your peice and inspire you to educate yourself about assuit and its history, now that you have a rare piece.

You are right, you do not know me, so do not assume I do not know assuit. My word!!........ I actually own a lovely ivory piece ( I own several) in which it has turned to the gold tone. I am using it for an existing costume as an accent, I have decided to get this one because it is still silver in coloring.

Also a question about the site. If it is best offer but someone has first shot. if some offers a highr price should that not be what gets the item- if that first shot was lower. especially when that first shot was after the initial higher offer?
seems like this is more a "who knows who" situation rather than fair business.
Caty, undercutting, and unfair to all involved- even to the pieces involved and the seller- by her "friends" no less.
Shame. I was hoping for a good forum.
all the best to you as well

Thalia is right. Shem's set her price. For all you (Rajuli) know she got an incredible deal on the pieces and was passing it on. If we want to move stuff we set a good price. Could she have made money selling on Ebay? Maybe, but obviously that was not her priority for listing them. People sell Assuit on Bhuz all the time sometimes high, sometimes low. It is the luck of the draw who gets what. Can a buyer be a scammer???? When a seller asks the community what the value is on an item before posting a price we let them know what going values are depending on the the item and condition. The buyer sets the price.

Hi Rajuli,
Of course it's up to the seller to set her terms, but unless the seller states otherwise, it's usually understood that it's traditionally first come first serve on the Bhuz swap meet. I think what Shems meant by "or best offer" was that she was open to being flexible on the price, especially if there was no interest in an item at her asking price. I don't think it was her intention to sell to the highest bidder. Usually when a "first shot" is offered to someone in particular, it's because the seller knows that person is looking for the particular item. For example, if the person that buys the assuit receives it and decides that it wasn't what she was looking for, she might decide to look up this thread and offer first dibs to the next dancers "in line" here. Shems knows her stuff and I'm willing to bet that she's aware that she had some magnificent assuit, and priced it with a spirit of generosity. Sorry if your first experience with Bhuz was confusing or disappointing :)

Hi Shems,
I'll take the patterns for sure. Just let me know what from your other listing you have left (I posted what I'd like, but was a little confused with all of the postings as to what you had left). You can pm me too. I'll send payment when I know the total. Thanks!

Rajuli,
Don't worry, I'm not being taken advantage of. I was lucky to come upon these pieces for good price and I'm sending them on at a good price. I know these women will appreciate them and that makes me happy. I've enjoyed several good deals on these pages, so I think it all evens out in the end.Shems - www.shemsdance.com

I apologize for misunderstanding than; for being brash and aggressive. I suppose I am just not used to ladies giving such good deals and I really did not know you knew with full awareness so I wanted to make sure. I see now that is not the case. I am humbled and apologize. To your friends- I am sorry as well. I did get too heated and I apologize for insulting you. you all care for one another very much- good luck and enjoy you assuit and your dance. After it all we are all sisters in our passion and commitment to dance. ( I may have steered my passion in a deconstructive direction) sorry to distract from your sales.
Thank youLast edited by Rajuli; 01-11-2012 at 08:51 AM. Reason: Spelling
